Various rattles! Some suggestions please!

Ok, so I've got about three rattles which I need to sort out as the car is starting to sound like an old Ford.

I've starting getting a rattle from where the hood hook engages with the header rail bracket on my 996 Cab. There's also quite a bit of movement from here when the roof mechanism engages the hood. It pulls down and away from the windscreen/header at one side. I'd like to take this apart and try and tighten things up a bit but don't want to go prising bits apart and get stuck with a Meccano set. Any Cab owners had a similar rattle?

The drivers door shuts with a bit of a clank, not a firm Germanic thud. Not sure if this is just a Porsche thing in general or if there is a bit of play in the window mechanism. Again any thoughts appreciated.

Finally, tricky one is a rattle from the rear, passenger side area, seeming to come from behind the speaker panel by the back seat or perhaps from the hood mechanism in that area. I think I'll have to squeeze in the back whilst the wife drives over some pot holes in order to narrow it down, but has anyone had any noise from this area?

Thanks for any suggestions. These aren't always easy to find, but often it seems someone else has had a similar one.

I suspect the door shut is normal - the 996 has very different doors to the old cars.

The rear noise could be a speaker lead (easy to get the speaker out and check the lead).

You could ask your local Porsche Centre about the hood. They are usually quite good at sorting rattles (that's my experience). Independents should also have the experience.

Take a look at the TSB index in the Technical Articles section. These sound appropriate:

"Convertible top locking hook"
"Noise from the rear side window"

There are a couple on door noises too. If you would like details, drop me an email or PM me with your email address.
