I haven't driven the porker for months until yesterday for the Revival. Having recently had the driver's side glass replaced, I definitively heard a whistling noise down the motorway so looks like I will have to get Autoglass back to adjust the glass. Has anyone had a similar experience?
The other main issue was that halfway down the A3, another car drove alongside and shouted out the window that the exhaust had dropped off!! You can imagine my concern and pulled over to find the driver's side exhaust tips had come off. Looks like the clamp to the exhaust system had failed due to corrosion and dropped off.
I have a 02 996 C4S with a switchable sports exhaust. It's the original exhaust but it is heavily corroded and has various holes in it. I have been putting off replacing it but it now looks like I have no other option. My question is, what exhaust system should I explore? The same again or an all together different brand?
Finally, it this isn't enough, on the way back to town today the PCM2 screen went blank and I cant seem to get it back on.
So... any experience with wind noise from the side glass, advice on exhausts would be appreciated and I am hoping , its simply the fuse for the PCM that needs replacing but perhaps not?

Thanks

Replaced my corroded switchable sports exhaust with Dansk switchables a couple of months ago by Wrightune in Wallingford, Oxon. Very satisfied with the replacement. Dashboard switch works fine and the exhaust sounds reasonable on the normal position and fabulously rude in the sports position. Reasonably priced (c.£1,800) compared to Porsche Centre price for o/e sports exhaust. They used Porsche fixings and the original exhaust tips.

Check fuses D8 and E5, but there is also a fuse on the back of the PCM. You have to remove it to access. Before doing that, try a system reset by pressing the 1, 4, and 8 buttons at the same time.

It sounds like the window just needs adjusting. The adjustment is by moving the window regulator bottom mounting points in or out to get the right pressure on the top seal. I had a similar noise on my 996 and had to adjust it.

As for the exhaust, your original PSE is the most expensive option to replace with the same, but is the nicest to have. There are a couple of recent threads about Dansk alternatives which are worth reading if you want a cheaper alternative. Edit: (Jerry beat me to that one).

thanks very much. mmhh, part of the problem is one of the tips dropped off on the motorway so will have to replace this as well! Additional expense!

I have come across Dansk but I wouldn't want anything louder than the current pse. Would you say it is?

Thanks Richard. I'll check those fuses.

If the PCM has to come out, how easy is this?

Window should be an easy fix , thanks.

Yes I'll look into the Dansk option.

The Dansk switchable exhaust is a little quieter than the original on the quiet setting, and a little fruitier and crisper on the open setting. Not really louder.
