RPM Morgan in Perth do Defendall http://www.rpm-morgan.co.uk/paint_protection.html

Never used them myself, so can't comment either way.

Bull bars? Heard Dad's getting some for Christmas so he can nudge cars out the way if he can't pass them.

Alan.

I watched a demo of RPM doing this to a customer's car a year or so ago - it was tough to get right - took loads of time and fiddling around but once it was on it did look as good as normal paint work. I mean obviously you can see the edges but I guess you realize this if you are concidering having it done. That's the issue for me. If I don't look closely I can't see the stone chips on my car. If I pay for a respray and a paint protection film and don't look closely I won't see the edges of the film.[8|]. So far I'm still touching up the front end and not looking closely.[&:]

Hi Lindsay

I had the front end, mirrors, head lamps and parts around the wheel arches and behind them on my 997 GT3 RS done by John Printie at RPM only a few months ago. Although they did a reasonable job it wasn't perfect, to them it was fine but I am a bit of a perfection freak and they offered to do the parts I wans't happy with again. After coming back from Spa some of the 2nd attempt started to come away in the corners around the lower grille surround and so it went back agan. So far this time looks ok. In total car was up in Perth three times for one or two days at a time, usual hassle of getting back from there or going up there on train to collect.

Front end of GT3 has complex range of curves and corners so this makes it very difficult to get the material to stick and stay where you want it as it is trying to revert back to its original flat shape. I also felt the preperation of the paint could have been better before they put the film on, I can see a few dirty marks on my car under the film.

TLC Detailing in Stirling are shortly going to offer this service as well as there detailing work. I have had some detailing work carried out there and they are first class, Raymond also had his speedster there and they made a stunning job.

It may be worth giving them a call, web site will give you an idea of the standard of work www.tlcdetailing.co.uk

let me know how you get on

Thanks Kenny for your views, I am known for my anal qualities when it comes to my car so although I have contacted RPM you have made up my mind, that option is out. The car will not be out much in this weather anyway, so I have time. Need to replace the battery tomorrow a mere £149 from OPC, to be honest I thought it would be more. I will speak to the boys in Stirling

Do you still have warranty? If not I'd fire in a Bosch Silver - will last a lot longer than the Porsche rubbish....

Any recommendations? I want some frontal protection

Lindsay,

I've gone through a bit of hassle with film before in Scotland, and came to the conclusion that to get it done properly it basically has to be 'Paintshield' down south in Granthom, if you really want a spot on job done first time.
I forget what film they actually use now, but the latest one has a smoother finish with less orange peel than before. They also do full size film for the whole bonnet if required, and can take the lights out etc and fold over the edges.
I had mine done over 2 years ago and zero chips, it's very tough stuff, and to be honest nobody can tell it's on my car until I point it out.
As mentioned the GT3 front is not easy to do, but these guys do them all the time and seem to have it down to a fine art, plus they have the dust free premises to do it in.
They can travel if you have a suitable place, but that obviosly costs even more than the pretty expensive price to begin with.

Downsides on a white car are it can 'yellow' a little over time, but I'm told this can be reversed, and also with some bugs you end up with red stains on the film which won't immediatley wash off, you have to wait for UV light to fade them out !!
I can send some close ups of the front of my car if you want to get an idea of the finish etc.

Also if you have a look here : http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=283608 - this is my previous car done with an older version of the film which has quite a bit of orange peel, showing up esp on the black. The area of the front headlight in one picture shows some typical 'flaws', this was done in Edinburgh and was the 3rd attempt. The rest was done at Paintshield and was spot on first time, and after 5 years there was no chips on the paint anywhere apparently, just hope you never want to take it off though !!

Cheers, Sandy

Isn't the place in Grantham where Lachlan took his GT2, and the film has gone all opaque?
Not sure of the outcome of that story, but I'd want to find out before going there.

I've never heard of there being any such issues with their films to be honest, I'm pretty sure it would have been all over P.Heads by now if there had been, but of course needs to be checked out.
Also they are well known to stand by their product so I'd be surprised if any issue wasn't resolved quickly, they can also supply different films I beleive.

The films I think are very good these days, it's the actual installation which is absolutely key here, and they are pretty renowned for quality of installation.
I'm not saying no one else can do it, but from my own experience and research, many people 'think' they can do it, but may end up having to re do it and it's still not perfect.

Do not know the outcome to Lachlans car but it is shocking looks like dried out rain droplets all over, certainly not a good advert for the company ,but like any reputable company it is how they fix things that people judge them by .
I had a new Beetle done years ago by Peter O Maly when he had the Armour fend franchise before he moved to Eastern Western was a 3M product it was fine but as Eric would say you can see the join. Would not get this type of product again .As to RPM would make no comment about them on a public forum but glad to see they will not be getting your business.

I'd be very surprised - but interested if it was actually the same company.
Paintshield have been tagged in the past for dodgy work that turned out to have been done by someone else.

I think Lachlan has had the problem on his GT2 rectified as I saw it sitting at Porsche Centre Edinburgh recently when I collected my car after puncture fiasco and it looked fine, much better than when I saw it up at Scone Palace for concours day. Not sure what was wrong then but it did look terrible with rain like marks all over the film which could not be removed with polish etc.
Would be interested to know what the cure was.
