Venture Shield

Now the initial 2 or 3 weeks of lust has died down on the new 997 (well almost - still giggling every time I get in it like a child and looking, usually without success, for a road where I can try out the ever so pointless but nonetheless addictive launch control) I was wondering whether I should get a stone chip/paint protection film put on the car. Venture Shield have quoted me £400 (that being the local option available to me). Do people recommend this? Is it worth £400? Any experience of Venture Shield?

as ever, grateful for any input.

Cant vouch for venturshield specifically but my 996 had an equivalent film from new and it certainly made a huge difference to minimising the stone chips. Now the car is 10 yrs old the remaining film has gone slightly yellow but its done its job and I believe modern film is thinner, stronger, and less likely to yellow. I removed some of the film a year or two ago (due to yellowing) and it has already suffered serious stonechipping in these areas that previously survived for 8 yrs unaffected.

Knowing how much a 911 nose suffers from stone chips I'd definately recommend it.

An alternative company/product called paintsheild is having an open day forthe club on the 28th of September, so possibly worthwhile going to that and asking the questions ...
Might not be the product but always good to have professional advice..

Most of my stone chips are on my bonnet [:(]

Had my new 997 Ventureshielded to about 9" behind the headlights. Everything from that point forward.

1 year on, 6000 miles. No chips. Film like new.

I have heard good reports of paintshield.

I opted against this and went for regular applications of Zymol Royale. Now, it's meant to be the strongest natural wax in the world. I don't know whether it is or isn't however I have now covered nearly 12,000 miles from new and I'm astounded at how many stone chips I have. There are probably two noticeable chips, and not much in the way of 'dusting'

And of course my car gets cleaned and cared for by an expert as well. www.elitedetailing.co.uk

Mmm, I don't think any wax in the world will guard against stone chips.

All that any wax can do is apply a very thin film to the paint and at best it will be too hard to absorb any energy from a flying stone so will chip with the paint.

The plastic films are much, much thicker than any wax and also absorb the impact, preventing chipping.

I'm not saying it will stop stone chips - just that i have had several applications of it and that my car has very few chips so perhaps it goes someway to preventing them or reducing the impact.

After the Swiss trip Gary most of my stone chips are actually on my windscreen!!!

If I was going to buy from new again I would get Ventureshield done before I even collected the car from the OPC.

Sadly when I tried to arrange this for my Turbo the local Ventureshield vendor fell out with the manufacturers and the alternative was the more expensive solution from Paintshield which I would have also had to pay £££ to transport the car there and back across the country given they said if I had it done at Porsche GB then it would void the warranty.

So in the end I didn't bother and got myself a £9 touchup paint pencil [:D]

As a Porcshe club member I was quoted £960 =vat for a full frontal from Paintshield and from Ventureshiled a similar full frontal ia in the order of £700 inclusive of vat.
I am not sure if the two systems comparable and if Paintshield is worth an extra £500.

I certainly can vouch for the efficacy of the fil protection having had Armourfend on 3 previous cars. The problem with Armourfend was not doing the entire bonnet and the obvious line of the film on the bodywork.

Does anybody have views on these two sytems.

As I have said, I had my 997 VS'd a few days after delivery. I year later, no chips, no discolouring, no lifting.

You can see the line if you're very close but would never notice it normally.

Highly recommended.

I can only vouch for Paintshield, after 8k miles there are no signs of any damage to the film on my car, and it's very easy to remove dead flies etc which is nice.
The only downside I've found is it gives the paint a slightly orange peel look, maybe more noticeable on my black car.
You can see the edges if you look closely on mine, but I think they can wrap the film over the panels now, and can also cover a complete bonnet in a single piece of film so no joins.
Paintshield I guess like Ventureshield have installers around the country, but I'd check their work first as a poorly installed film can look terrible.
I'd definately have it done again on a new car - especially black !!
