Ventured out in snow at the weekend

I have heard it said, sports cars don't work very well in the snow. I dispute that twice since my best friend and I met up for breakfast on Sunday morning, both bringing our cars and having a fair round trip each.
The cars, both faultless, no mods, normal tyres, just two silver RWD cars in the snow. Even the occasional 4WD SUV and Landy were having some difficulties.

Good breakfast and coffee too!

Wow, thats brilliant! Good on you guys and puts into perspective the phrase "cars are for driving". Up here, in sunny Aberdeen, the bigger problem occurs when the slush turns to ice and a light snow covering polishes the ice.
Before my 1st Porsche, I used to have an Audi S4 and on the way to work (pre Covid and therefore pre working from home) I was in a traffic jam in the center of the city. It was caused by an F Type Jag who just couldnt get up a small incline on a dual carrageway. I knew there would have been a lot of folk thinking how stupid sports cars were, especially with those wide tyres and RWD especially as one of them almost brought a dual carrageway to a stop
I was determined not to be that guy so I went for a 4S, then just to make sure, I added the winters into the mix.
I then bought a spare car, a VW Polo so the 911 was never used in the snow. The Polo needed it's 1st set of new tyres in the summer and I went for Good Year All Seasons and so glad I did. Coming into their own just now, although I havent seen anyone get stuck yet. with the freezing weather later today and tomorrow thats just a matter of time.

With all the weight on the rear wheels, there's plenty of traction to be had. On ice it can get a little bit squirrely with sharp acceleration or braking, but keeping everything calm, you can make great progress and in superb comfort too. 👍🏼
The main problem is avoiding everyone else loosing control and coming at you! 😱

Clive
