Very intermittent rear wiper!

The rear wiper on my 924 CGT - but I guess model is of no importance - decides to work when it wants to..
I have determined that it is not a member of ASLEF, nor on a Govt make work scheme so it must be a mechanical problem.
Volts in all the right places as far as I can tell aided by a Haynes fantasy book. But switch it on and there is only a 1 in 4 chance of it running. Once working, switch it off and on again immediately and it inevitably works.
Any one with ideas before I bust the glass trying to get to the self parking mech.?

Pop the switch apart and clean the internals (ball bearing and metal rocker) with electrical contact cleaner.

Thanks - so you do not think it might be the self park - more likely the switch sending the current?

Like the avatar - is it a 924 GTP?

Check the easy thing first. Remove term 53 on the motor and operate the switch. should be 12v on the black green wire. Switch off should be a direct earth via black green. Check for a permanent 12 v on term 53a green wire. Check that term 31 goes to earth.
