Very odd, but good...

I posted a while back about what felt like an undesirably 'toed-out' feeling to my 997.2TT.

A week or so ago, I heard a deepish 'twang' when I set into a corner (pressing on a bit).

Since then, the whole front end feels considerably more stable. Have looked and nothing broken or misplaced, at least to the eye.

Have just been out again and tested on the very same route that unnerved me last time and it is just 100% planted. Dampers in sport or not.

Can anything have moved/settled, or is this simply not plausible and my mind playing tricks with me...?

Am booked into CG anyway to have a full set up done, given the car has now settled after 2,500 miles from new, but it honestly feels significantly better.
 
Likely to be a road spring settling back onto its seat. Have you had it jacked up recently? Glad everything is fine now. Chris will sort it out.

Dealer says that road springs cannot move... So, wonder what it could have been.

Just been out on this very sunny morning, and the car is truly amazing. A complete joy to drive and without doubt exhibits NONE of the traits that concerned me before the 'twang'.

However, I would like to know that there is something in this..!
 
Goodness............and there was me thinking the suspension comprised MacPherson struts and coil road springs.

Just shows you how much I know! [8|]

The spring is seated on mounts as part of the strut assembly and is compressed by the vehicle weight so is held firmly.

The suspension drops when the car is jacked up and the spring is less compressed, so it can sometimes become unseated, particularly if the steering has been moved.

Once the vehicle is back on its wheels, the spring is again compressed, but may not be fully seated and can then take several miles or cycles of suspension movement for it to return. This it normally does with a rather loud and unsettling twang.

If your dealer has any alternative suggestions, I would be pleased to hear them, since you're never too old to learn. [;)]

AGree with you COMPLETELY - am a little surprised that they've resorted to the "it's not possible" routine. Apart from anything else, acknowledging that this could be the cause would have been a 'good' answer - if I chose to believe them, then I would not be wondering what else has 'moved' (that shouldn't...!)
 
No problem. Keep an eye on it. If it is not an isolated incident, it may indicate a defect in the spring mounting, requiring attention.

Hi there,

Just thought you'd like to know I've had a similar occurrence. I've had four new Michelin Sports fitted plus a set of new alloys about 3 weeks ago now. Been driving her about a bit just lately, all going well, just getting the tyre settled in all ok. Put her away in my garage for about week and gave it some TLC etc etc........... Well, reversed her out of the garage on Saturday, put on the standard amount of left hand down whilst reversing.

Started to move forward about 20 mtrs and there was this almighty "Twang" from the from left hand side ...... which I'm sure is just a reseating of the front spring, it actually reverberated through the car like a spring too. I'm sure that this was related to the tyre and wheel change. I've since given her a blat around the local winding roads and all seems well.
