Headed down to Dorset for a week in the 987.2, loaded up light as usual and hit the Roads of Grear Britain and Wells to start with staying at a country hotel that gave us more than be arrived with...

Touch of 'Dellie-Belly' ensued, most unusual for me as I can digest titanium if presented, but kept it all at bay.

The car park had a slope to it, no more than 1:15.
First night parked nose up and cold start fine next morning.
Next night parked nose down, and cold start was a Big Plume of white smoke!
First time it's done that for 9 months, and I thought it was behind me. Subsequent nose up parking, all ok.

Left after 4 nights to the west coast to see the sea at Minehead, never been before. Pleasant surprise, car ran a dream apart from the rattly exhaust at near tick-over.
Got to the next hotel/pub located in a calandar setting, nice.
However, the chef had been 'pinged' on the NHS tracking system and the place had been closed down the day before we arrived, nobody there had tested positive.
Thus, with an alternative room provisionally booked by the closed hotel in a busy place we elected to come home.

Evil journey up the M5/Bristol/Bath and eventually arrived home 6 hours later.

Better luck later in the year for Scotland!

Roughly atm:
Up towards Glasgow and west to Arron
Then Kintyre, Jura (maybe) Mull, Skye, Inverness ish home.

Need more mileage details and places to stay that will determine the exact route.

Thank you Andrew.
My wife is a demon for seeking out places that work for a day's drive/sight-seeing etc and to the next hotel.
She is always aware of parking which can limit the options.
We want a 6 night away ish holiday with a heavy miles drive on the fist day to 'get there' and similar back, far more relaxed when in the area.

About now is the time for some of her research. She never gets this wrong in 42 years of marriage!
Bit irritating really...[:)]

Hi Graham.

If I remember rightly, you eventually managed to identify your white smoke to an overfill of oil. Maybe parking it nose down after running for a while in hot weather recreated the situation. [8|]

Yes, interesting 'event' that was.
Most oddly, there was nobody about! It always belched smoke when there was an audience...

Nose up and the oil may not reach the base of the cylinders when at rest after a run (it was hot)
Nose down and some oil puddled in one bore and seeped through to the combustion chamber past the rings maybe.

I always try to park on the level but could not at this hotel.
Since the '2 segments empty' oil level has indicated on the dash and inadvertently parking level for 9 months there has been no smoke at all, cold or hot stars. Huge leap forward and stopped me from selling the car and moving from modern Porsches for good. (Audi TT was the next step).

When I can I will repeat the parking with a similar slope and see if I can repeat the result, might even make a ramp/block to do the same on the drive.
Fewer people about then if it happens.

Flippin' hot in somerset and the cooling pipes with the plumper O rings held tight, lot no coolant at all in 500 miles and lots of standing traffic. [:)]
