Very sticky Tiptronic gearshift when warmed up

Hi, 1st time on so hi to all!

I have an 07 boxster, 2.7 tiptronic. Had it about a year after an Audi TT. Love the car. I've found however that when it's warmed up the gearshift gets very sticky indeed when trying to move it from drive to reverse, park to drive etc etc. It feels like it doesn't want to shift. I've pushed the old brake pedal down as far as poss but it does'nt ease the resistance.

It doesn't affect the performance at all, I'm just wondering if anybody else has come across this and if so what's your advice?

Hi Russell,

Have a search around the forum on the Tiptronic issue. I (and others) have replied to this one before.
Basically it's a design fault - apparently common to Boxsters and 911's - and centres around some cheap plastic parts in the gearchange linkage which lose lubrication.
It can be expensive if a break occurs so have your car checked out sooner rather than later.
Be reasonably careful in the meantime.

yep not at all uncommon-mine had it from word go but OPC didnt want to know

took it to an indi(JZM) who lubricated it then when that didnt work ,replaced the unit which cost 2-300 quid.

then worked brilliantly forever.

basically some of the units have plastic si too tight around the lever-so when its warm it is no longer snug-its far too snug and doesnt allow the lever to move back anfd forwards-lubriacating will help if its not too tight a fit-but otherwise it needs new slightly larger plastic hole in which to put the lever-cost as above.[:mad:]
 
My 911 had the same problem of stiff/sticky selector when warm and the OPC adjusted the cables that run from the gear selector to the Box.

That sorted mine!
