Very Stiff Clutch Pedal.

Hi all,

My first ever post, here goes!

I have a 1989 964 C2 which I have owned pretty much hassel free for about about 3 and a half years.

Throughout the time I have owned the car the clutch pedal has been really heavy and I have come to the point where is actually putting me off driving the car it's such a pain.

I think that the car could probably do with a new clutch as I have felt it slip a couple of times when under heavy load. My question is would I be correct in thinking that going for the new clutch would lighten the clutch pedal or would other measures (such as bleeding the clutch mentioned in other posts) help matters?

Finally any ideas how much a new clutch would set me back? Or any other measures that might help with this.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Cheers

Adam

I had a new clutch fitted to my old 964 C4 as part of the deal to buy it and that transformed the car - the effort to depress the pedal was hugely reduced as a consequence and made it much nicer to drive too.

Adam,

The heavy pedal is a classic sign of a tired clutch - apart from the slipping of course!!

Current prices for a C2 seem to be around the £1000 - £1200 mark including the dreaded VAT. Depends where you are - and who you go to. THose prices are from JZ Machtech (upper end) and RPM (lower end).

Dave

Oh well, looks like I too ought to start saving for a replacement as well. Haven't experienced any slip yet, but it's been heavy in the 21 months I've had the car. Be a good time to also replace the crank pulley which has a slight wobble. Just need to get the one on ebay at the moment.

Thanks Gents for the quick response.

Advice much appricated! New clutch it is then. Will probably get the work done at Northway as that is where I have previously had the car serviced and they are just down the road from me.

Looking forward to driving it afterwards!

Cheers

Adam

There is a mod/update for the G50 gearboxes with the clutch fork assy. Make sure you get it checked when it's all apart, not sure if it covers your car or not.

I'm about to get my clutch done, going to use Hillcrest Specialist just up the road for me but around the £450-£500 to fit the clutch I bought last year.
If I drive the car sensibily the clutch doesn't slip but this is now getting on my nerves, looking forward to next month.
