very strange problem...

Hello!

I've got a 1989 944 s2 for track use and it's got a rather odd problem, last year at a track day it was running fine and we stopped to let it cool down and it wouldn't start again, just absolutely no power, not turning engine, no lights nothing.

after a bit of wiggling wires (which seemed to do nothing) we left it and it decided it would start again, we assumed it was a problem with the immobiliser which we hd taken off and since then it was fine. until... a few weeks ago at Croft it did exact;y the same thing, running fine, turn it off and then nothing.

we've replaced the battery as apparently that was an issue and assumed it would be ok, track day at Croft tomorrow and it's been ruinning this morning, sure enough turn it off and now it's dead :s ##any ideas what it may be?

I'm thinking it could be a faulty earth lead?? but not sure what else it could be!

thanks!

Could be lots of things - sounds electrical but... I'd replace the DME relay then check the senseor wires from the flywheel pick ups (the armoured black ones on the back of the block), all engine related cables/ connectors, ignition swicth etc
Good luck

No power and no anything else after running and then starts from cold, sounds like a bad connection appearing after running hot.

Is it completely dead - i.e. no dash lights or engine turning over? or does the engine turn over but does not start. If the former then i'd be inclined to start from the ignition switch - but can't think of a reason why it would only happen after the car has already run - could be a cruel twist of coincidence.

If it turns over then check the ignition coil is on - if not it could be reference sensor or the coil itself.
