on the very last day of a great Euro Tour, 3500 miles so far, Chunnel early tomorrow. The engine start switch on the clutch pedal has suddenly become temperamental, esp today.
It worked when I turned the ignition key to auxiliary as suggested on a forum, so now in a hotel close to the Chunnel.
it looks like if it fails tomorrow morning I can just reach the two wires to the switch, partly hidden by the heating duct.
I have no tools with me, but I do have a few blade fuses, and one trick off the net is to pull the wires off the switch and connect the two wires via the two terminals on the blade fuse, so bypassing the function of the pedal mounted switch.
sounds good to me if the switch totally fails. Any probs with this fix to get me home?
any comments or will this get me back home tomorrow if it fails.
thank you in advance.
The car has been absolutely fantastic through the last 2 weeks, I cannot image a better car for the job!

Hi Graham.
Re (and one trick off the net is to pull the wires off the switch and connect the two wires via the two terminals on the blade fuse, so bypassing the function of the pedal mounted switch.)
That would be fine to get the car started but not to leave permanently connected as it would surely confuse the electrics IMHO
Good luck and have a good trip
Andy

Than k you Andy, it was this risk that prompted me to ask the question.
the man who did the 'bye-pass' left the fuse in place ages ago and all is well.
another has fitted a manual switch on the centre console and when switched off, the engine cannot be started, this is an anti thrift trick and although adds a bit of a nusence to starting the car, seems a good idea!
I just need a fix if it won't start 5 times in the next 24 hours getting home, esp when on the Chunnel train ready to disembark!
Im bound to be at the head of the cars waiting to get off....
spanners or rather, wires, crossed this won't happen.

Think you are fine to bypass it - alternative approach on mine was to fix the switch in a closed position with a cable tie

The only reason that I suggested not to leave on permanently was that the electronics nowadays are so complex and this may have repercussions in thinking the clutch pedal is being depressed. Just my thoughts.

By pass with a wire link and timing the switch closed is the same electrically, and many have. Done it and left it according to comments on the net.
Ill do it if forced to today!

Car started perfectly all day.[:)]
We were nervous when starting once the Chunnel train had stopped in the UK, but all is well.
Will still sort that switch, not going through that again. [;)]
