vibration from exhaust

Hi,

I have a vibration coming from my exhaust at low revs. Once you put your foot on the gas it is fine. Can anybody help? Sounds like it is coming from the tips.

Check the bolts/nuts holding the tips on, they can rust badly and may need to be replaced.
If they are fine then check the exhaust heat shields they also tend to rattle at low revs as the bolts/nuts holding them on tend to rust as well.

Hi I had that problem the 'tip' was chattering on the exhaust pipe. there is a nut that is visible underneath through the chrome end tip........ you could slacken it tap the 'tip' forward and retighten it........trouble is the top of that 'bolt' is shielded and so if you go to tighten it and it pulls the top nut from its welds it will just turn and not tighten..............my solution drop into my local exhaust shop first thing Saturday morning they just put 4 tiny spot welds in through the front ...."pipe to 'tip'....having first tapped the 'tip' forward so that it doesn't chatter off the exhuast pipe itself.......they put a quick squirt of black exhaust paint on them....and they can be 'ground' off simply with trusty angle grinder should the need arise!

Cheers,

I was hoping that it was going to be soomething simple. Well I hope I have not spoken too soon, but I think it sounds like that would be the propblem.

Some time ago, I reversed too close to an earth bank and nudged one of the exhaust tips. That provoked a rattle at about 3,000 rpm.

It turned out that my tips had a support strut leading back to a clamp on one of the exhaust pipes. The strut had become detached from the tip and was rattling against it. So the OPC just undid the clamp and took the strut off. Problem solved ... no adverse effect!
