ive got a new problem with my S2. I'm getting a vibration through the pedals and through the floor on my car. The steering wheel doesn't feel like it's vibrating as much as the pedals. Could this be the famous engine mount problem. Or where would you look first. I've just done the belts etc and it wasn't doing it after the belts were done. Unless of course the balance belt has jumped a tooth.

I think they might be MEYLE brand, which are Solid Rubber and not Liquid filled like the OE ones.
There is a fair amount of stories and opinions on why the OE's are the best, and other people claim the cheap ones are fine etc..
The OE ones I think are (Corteco) and about £300 a pair I think? so this puts a few people off, but I couldn't ignore a fair amount of people who had
fitted the cheap ones to only then find they annoying vibrations from idle so I bit the bullet and I'm not running balance shafts
and I don't have any vibrations at all at any rpm..

My understanding is there are two types of engine mounts. The hydraulic ones are fluid filled and are the right ones for a 944. The question is if there is a viable (cheaper) source of hydraulic ones other than Porsche OEM. I have heard that the OEM brand is Meyle, but also that Meyle make both the hydraulic and rubber ones, so getting hold of a Meyle mount is not a guarantee that it's the right one.
Another general piece of info (I heard this on good authority from a BMW indie who I know well and has been in the business for decades) is that large suppliers such as Bosch are known to produce different parts (from different production lines and to different standards) for the aftermarket and for the OEM manufacturer. Sometimes it is the Porsche box you are paying for (radiators being a case in point), sometimes not.

I queried this with Max from FrazerPart as the Meyle mounts were listed as a hydro-bearing in the Meyle catalog but they listed them as a solid 924 mount.
Max queried this with Meyle direct, received confirmation that they were indeed a hydraulic filled mount rather than solid and updated his website accordingly. He sells them for £36 each and I can confirm that they're spot on!
What I would do though is follow Alasdair's guide to changing them over that is in the 944 tech section. You remove more parts but it works out faster overall - especially as you won't spend hours trying to lever the new mounts into place. Took me an afternoon to change them over on the drive.
