Vibration & Steering

There have been a few posts recently so wondered if anyone offer some advice with a problem I have with a Boxster?

I can feel a fair bit of vibration through the steering wheel, its worse at motorway speeds, and on poor surfaces. Feels like suspension just not doing its job.
Wheels been balanced but no better. If hit a manhole cover with the offside front wheel there is defnitaly a small metalic clunk noise, not really noisy but can be heard If do the same with the nearside wheel noise isn't heard. I have done a search and possible suspects could be drop links, wishbones?

Would these symptoms sound likes these items? Car booked in to independant tomorrow just trying to get an idea of possible causes.

Car 3yr old with 29,000 miles..

Thanks

Hi sja

I have a similiar problem at 75mph, I have had the wheels balanced and the shocks changed (2003, 39k). The independent said that the tyres were out of shape and this could be the cause?!? At £225 per rear tyre i'm reluctant to change them just to see !!

Would be interested to know how you get on.

So you changed shocks but car still the same? Yeah sure car in tomorrow so see what they say.

Just been to Sheffield today on M1 and right on Q, above 75 and the whole car shakes. It appears to be the ballencing, however i'm beggining to suspect that it might be the rear wheels causing the wobble. So I will wait for your reply tomorrow and might take the plunge on new tyres.

I also have an appointment at the dealer the week after for a RMS change (on warrenty), was even thinking about asking them.

I bought the car last June, and it had no wobbles, perfect right up to 100 and above. The wobble started on a trip to Glasgow on the M6, so this has got me totally confused.

Good luck tomorrow

Well im stuck. Indi took it out and he thinks its ok, mayeb tyres not balanced properly, but he said my flywheel is "on its way out". No idea what that means. I explained I just had rms done so he sugested OPC may be at fault!

However OPC have just driven car and say its fine.

So can anyone advise what the symptoms are of a "on the way out" flywheel"

Sorry to here that, I'm gone try a new set of tyres and will let you know the outcome... I will keep and eye on your post [8|]

Slipped on a 4 new tryes today, it has helped but still have a slight vibration from the rear..... my funds are now at rock bottom, so will have to put up with it for now, hope you have better luck.

Well OPC have had my car for two days now regarding the flywheel / whine / vibration. They reckon flywheel ok but the whine is down to fifth gear. Suggest a new gearbox! Trouble is they said that when they "presumed" car had an extended warranty. When I explained it didn't they said "leave it with us"..

Back to the original problem of vibration around 70. They loaned me a 987 2.7 56 plate. It was briliant, rock solid at all speeds..

So the saga continues!

At least you got to drive a 987, sounds fantastic, I however have a BMW 325d as a courtesy car from my OPC... They really know how to impress!!

I am having my RMS sorted and have asked them to look at the vibration... Will keep you posted, should get it back on Friday.
