vibration

I mentioned earlier in the week that im getting a lot of vibration up through the steering wheel in anything over 30 mph, enough to make the front end shake, i'm having a balance on saturday which i hope will cure it, is there anything else that can cause this...
I have a 6 month warrentee so can nip it back to the dealer if needs be.

Get your tracking checked! I had this problem a few years ago.The front wheels for some reason had started at toe out. This can cause severe vibration through the wheel.

I had this exact same issue on mine, thought it was the brakes but it was actually the tracking. Apparently it's easily knocked out and amplified further if you have larger diameter rims than standard.

Engine Mounts.Maybe.
A possibility ... does the shake increase with speed, or with engine speed? (You need to drive it in more than one gear to tell!)

If is increased with speed, it is probably drive/wheels/tracking related. If it increases with engine speed, it could be engine mounts, but these are meant to be worse at idle and better with speed.

Oli.

One last option, it could feasibly be a dented wheel, too. I had that problem with one of my old '44s.

Easiest to check- a bulge in the tyre tread (or worse sidewall!). Check your tyres carefully!

Or, even easier to check, loose wheel nuts!

John,
If it was a bulge in the tyre tread it vibration would be felt at all speeds.

Steve,
You could have lost a balance weight. That would cause a vibration. Can you drive through the vibration? If you can then balance the tyres.

Cheers,

might be a tie rod end. easy to check. Jack one front wheel , hold at 3am and 9pm and try to rock back and forward .Any play in the steering rack or tie rod ends will show as a clunk.
If the vibration increases when turning on a long bend in one direction and decreases in the other direction then it could be a wheel bearing

im hoping its a balance n track it feels worse at low speeds but doesnt really go away when i pick up speed.

Blimey so many possibilities in only one days replies.

I might as well jump on the bandwagon and suggest you check your wheel nuts are on tightly []

yes definatly check ya nuts [;)][:D][:D][:D]

Check your nuts 3 x!

No that happened to my car after getting new tyres fitted. The garage did not torque the nuts up correctly and they worked loose on one wheel. I've had the wheels off lots of times and never had this problem myself- another reason to do all my own maintainence.

yeah I had loose nuts once. Its not a pleasant experience lol[;)][:D]

hey cabby is there any detectable play in your steering at all when you rock the sterring wheel ?just use your fingertips to test they are more sensitive.

My guess is going to be wheel bearing [:(]

I had the balance and tracking checked ,balancing was way out but the tracking was true but its still vibrating so I will email Roly at Eporsch this week and get it back to him to sort out .

i took the Cab back to eporsch today and Roly had the guys at GT One check over the car , the outcome seems to be shot ARB bushes , so they are replacing the bushes and hopefully it'll take some of the vibration away.. I was also told that 17inch cups do not help the handling on the Cab .
