I have a 86 targa and recently a loud vibration noise has developed which as soon as i touch the brake pedal dissapears for a while!!!
Any ideas?
Thanks

With fuel prices the way they are, its probably your wallet trembling in anticipation of another expensive fill-up !! [:D]

Sorry........

Agree...wheel bearing/s
Check your log service sheets for the last time this was done.
Front are cheap as chips, and easy as piss to change.

Brake calipers sticking, or more correctly "hanging on" (usually caused by ballooning of the flexible hoses contracting AFTER braking) cause the brakes to 'moan'. Vibration is often but not always caused by worn or distorted disks.

Is there any steering wheel wobble under heavy braking? If not, I personally would look very closely at the flexible hose on the offending wheel.

I would also share Richard's view. See your friendly Independant. They have more experience of the older cars.

Good luck

Dave

Brake Caliper sticking - I'd bet money on it and I'm probably the tightest person on this forum! Rebuild kit is about a tenner a side and you may as well replace the hoses - probably another tenner each!

Hmmm, I have had sticking calipers due to swollen hoses on my old 1972 911 but the symptoms were nothing like you describe. The easiest way to check a sticking caliper is to simply feel the wheel after a drive. If the caliper is sticking it generates a lot of heat - to the extent that the whole wheel becomes quite warm, much more so than the other wheels.

Let us know.

I think i will have the calipers re conditioned, best price i have found so far is £58 each.
I am a bit wary of buying a service kit would rather get the calipers professionally done.
Anyone else know where i can reconditioned calipers?
Thanks
Nick

Try Classicar Automotive - 01625 860910

Never used them myself but read good things about them.

Actually this is probably the place you're looking at - £58 each for front calipers

Roy
