vibrations - engine or gearbox?!

I have a Cayenne Turbo S MY06, the car while standing vibrates (lever in P) slightly between 2000-2300 rpm. When driving the whole car starts little shaking ( I did in 6th gear, lever to M) at around 1500rpm (not periodically) and only when accelerating all the way up top speed. At around 230 - 270 km/h the shaking is clearly notable and coming in shorter intervalls like every two seconds for two seconds. When I stop pushing the throttle the vibrations stop.

The Porsche dealer changed the coils and the tranny valve box. Before changing the car got shaken hardly because of harsh downshifts from 6 to 4 or 5 to 3. PD checked the cardan shift for optical errors, nothing visible. Porsche has no explanations except 8 of 10 Cayenne start shaking... my mileage is 92000km or around 55k miles.

I looked through the forums but could not find adequate answer for my problems. Does anyone have the same experience or can help me?!

I have a KNS 2005 with 52,000 miles.

I have no idea what the cause is but mine has started to shake as well. I too would be interested to hear.
 
The vibration under load is usually a sign of the coil packs. Feels like a slight misfire. Doesn't happen all the time. However, if these have been changed then can't help.
 
No, appreciate that, but surely the OPC must have the intelligence to know that your car has a problem, identify it, and fix it. To change the coils and the valve box doesn't come cheap especially when it is not solving the underlying problem.
I'd be back there making a fuss, personally.
 
I made a fuss, porsche simply replies that a little shaking is fine - in topspeed range shaking is annoying -whan asking porsche to confirm in written they declined and want to check again. keep you posted

BTW, changed coils and valve box - this is a NEW problem, beside others ....
 
Hi - wondering if you managed to sort this?

Picked up my 56 KN S yesterday with 36k miles and it's hesitating/juddering at 1,000rpm to 2,000rpm. Most noticeable in 6th, and really only when feathering the throttle. Over 2,000rpm it's business as usual.

It's not right and needs fixing but I'm no engineer so not sure. Did a Google on it and looks like a lot of owners find it's the fly-by-wire throttle and an ECU fix sorts it. Contacting my local Porsche specialist tomorrow who have latest diagnostics but must admit, I'm a bit concerned!

Just had two Cayenne's with same fault ("S" and Turbo),changed coil packs and sparkplugs on both,all fine,NO faults stored in DME.

Puzzling, seems coil packs sometimes solves this but sometimes doesn't. Mine's going to a specialist next Tuesday for diagnosis so will update.

Here's hoping it's just the packs that need changing...
 
I asked Porsche, they changed all coil packs but NOT the plugs,did I understood right that if there is misfire coming from the plugs there are no faults stored?

I just spoke to Porsche Cardiff who gave mine a 40k service 500 miles ago who didn't pick this fault up on their diagnostics. They did pick up a PSM warning for brake pressure switch and replaced unit so would have thought that the juddering problem would show as a fault. Fault must have been there, can't have occured in the 300miles that I've owned the car so they surely don't show on the system...

Local specialist tells me all misfires are recorded and he could probably interpret what's up from this, is this true?

Suggest changing all coil packs and spark plugs?
 
I really cannot believe that in 2010 Coils can keep going pop like we read on this Forum.
All this Hi tec stuff on these engines and we get threads like this.The 50 year old Coil on one of my bikes never misses a beat.
We really do need a Buyers Strike on our Marque
 
UPDATE

Just had car returned from local specialist (Paul Devyea Sevenoaks who are great). Changed all 8 coil packs and plugs, no faults on computer when diagnostics checked and it's back to normal with no problems.

Not cheap at £650 all-in but fingers crossed, all is now fixed.

Had a nose in the workshop and there were many Porsches, all models, in with coil packs being changed. Seem to be wear and tear items, mine went in 36k.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction on the coil packs.
