Vin Check

Just carried out a HPi check on a car im looking at buying which seems to be ok, ie the VIN matches the VRM and its all clear[:)]

52 reg C4s
WPDZZZ99Z3S------

But when i used Scouser's Porsche 17 Digit VIN Decoder it states that the third digit should be a 0 for sport cars and 1 for suv but the VIN i got its a letter D!

Anyone know why?
Is the decoder wrong or have i got the wrong VIN although the HPi check was ok!

Well, the vin was supplied by the owner and firstly i entered a 0 instead of the D and the HPI stated that the vin and vrm did not match but when i entered D instead of 0 all was fine. So i suppose the vin must be right else the HPI would not have matched the vin to the vrm.
Strange!

Don't be surprised if you find that the VIN was incorrectly entered when the car was first registered with the DVLA - the error then gets carried through to HPI. I had this problem when buying my 996 where an S was entered instead of 2 for the year designator in the VIN. DVLA were very helpful in rectifying the error when it was pointed out [:)]

Tirfor, this sounds like a very dodgy car. Why don't you just get it checked by a real expert..........it will save you a lot of grief.
