VIN locations

Whilst wandering thru the web I heard tell of another location for the VIN number on 964s on the "drivers side windshield along the pillar".
Wondered if anyone has ever spotted a VIN there?
Just wondered if they might not have bothered altering that one as it's permanently hidden by trim (assuming of course it exists).
Cheers
Rick

I've seen one there on a late (MY93) C2. It's angled so that you can see it through the windscreen from the outside. It wasn't there on the earlier cars (not on my MY90 C2) and I don't know if they were put on the RS.

Is this another 'Let's Get Everybody Out to the Garage and Crawl Around the Car' thread???[:D][:D][:D]

Rick, there is a VIN plate on the 964 RS A pillar - but only on the later cars. I think they started adding it at the beginning of 1992, around VIN 1150. [8|]

Let´s start another one: Isn´t the correct gearbox no. also in the shell, next to the gearbox, in the tunnel on the left side? Pics please, when you try to check it!

And: Only Des knows where all the hidden secret signs of the Leichtbau truth are - ask him!

mine (92 Rs) has one on the A pillar
black aluminium tag riveted to the pillar.
car nr 1724, but I've seen cars later(and also a tiny bit earlier) then mine that don't have it , looks like it also depended on the market where it went

Guessing I'd need to take trim off to see it?Or am I misunderstanding?

Mel, I know your car is all wrapped up snug as a bug in a rug for the Winter but we're trying to unravel the secrets of the leichtbau here! Don't poo poo... after all, last time we did this we discovered the shell number was stamped into doors/engine lid and hood which seemed to have been new knowledge...

My car been retrimmed there... might have to have a dig at the weekend, but glued in I think...
Thanks for that!

Also, is this a plate or is it stamped into the pillar? Difficult to see... and roughly half way up the windscreen?
Cheers
Rick
