VIN mismatch

Brown trouser moment with the 951 this afternoon. Discovered the VIN stamped on the bulkhead is different to the one on the sticker in the boot and the VIN tag in the windscreen. Initially thought it must be a ringer, but when I ran the two VIN numbers, they both showed as kosher. After some desperate Googling, it would appear that the North America cars start life with the usual WPOZZZ code on the bulkhead, but for the US market the factory then gives it a tag on the screen pillar and a boot sticker with a different VIN starting with WPOAA0. Freaks the Yanks out all the time, and certainly had me going.

Phew!

I have an Ocean Blue 944T that is American spec (LHD) that I had in Dubai and now have here in the Uk and when I imported it I had a 'nearly' heart attack when it was pointed out that the VIN on the screen was different to the VIN on the bulkhead and boot sticker although the actual numbers are the same. When I gave the WPOZZZ number to Porsche for a Cert of Origin they said they had no records of the car!! Yikes I thought and then gave them the WPOAA2 number and all was well and they explained the reasons behind the oddity. My Cert of Origin confirmed all the details of my car including all options as per the boot sticker.

Phew!!
