Thanks for the reply Diesel, the bit of research i've done seems to surgest that v.m was never offered as either a standard or special order body colour throughout the entire 993 production run but as you probably know Porsche would paint any car any solid or metallic colour on request, (for an additional lump of cash) its the official numbers that i've drawn a blank.My 1997 c4s left the factory in viola metallic, i'm sure it wasn't ths only one but I havent seen another one yet.

You're spot on with the X options Maurice, the're all there. Here's how the paint code appears on the left inner wing plate, 39G 9 3, and here are a couple more codes from the options section of the VIL that looked like they belonged somewhere else? 00501 09991.

I see 39G is not listed for the 993 for any year. Nor does it seem to offered in any colour range for earlier years either.
Of course you can walk into a Porsche dealer and ask for a) the car to be painted to sample in which case it gets colour code L999 I believe or b) ask for any known Porsche colour in which case it gets a real colour code.
Now I notice that 39G finally pops up in the 2000 and 2001 Porsche colour range as "Viola". And then we have the 1993 964 Celebration in "Viola Metallic" which was an exclusive colour to that model and not available otherwise.
So I am guessing that 39G was the factory colour code for the 964 Celebration colour. And if you were prepared to pay for it then you could walk in and order a 993 in "that 964 Celebration colour please". In which case it would get colour code 39G for Viola Metallic.
To answer your original question "likely to be very few in that colour". Not surprised you can't find any production numbers.

PS you weren't at Gmunds on Sunday were you? There was a 993 in a colour that I didn't recognise and could well have been viola from the description.
