If you have a couple of hours spare on Saturday 23rd January, why not join us at the open day at the Porsche Bodyshop in Sheffield? This is the first time we have had the chance to see what goes on behind the scenes should our cars need bodywork repairs and Peter, the Bodyshop Manager, who has suggested our visit, is keen to put on an interesting day for us.

The day will start at 10.00 am and finish at 2.00 pm and the programme will be:

Coffee
Tour of the workshop
See vehicles being welded and painted with the chance to have a go yourself (presumably not on a customer's car!)
See how body repairs are estimated and have a go at guessing a damage estimate (small prize for the winner)
Lunch / refreshments

If you would like to come along please post here no later than Thursday 14th January as I have to let Peter have firm numbers by Friday 15th for catering and planning the day. There will be a health and safety briefing before the tour starts and please don't wear your best clothes - remember we are visiting a working Bodyshop!

The Bodyshop is located off the Sheffield Parkway (A630) which leads directly from Junction 33 of the M1 - follow the signs for Parkway Markets. The full address is:

Sorry to tell you but you missed a really good day!

Pete and his team at the Bodyshop did us proud and couldn't have done any more for us. We did painting, welding, guess the estimate (Dave Vickers won the prize and even then he was £2k too low and Jane Bushby won the ladies prize for having a go at everything), and we saw how various Porsche systems work. Coffees and lunch were provided and we all came away with a selection of 3M products including shampoo and wax.

I'm sure everybody really enjoyed it - there might be more posts on here confirming that later.

Yes Ian. Fantastic day out. Dan, Jane and myself enjoyed it immensely. Learned a lot about bodyshop procedures and judging by the estimate of repairing the damaged Boxster, I think I'll wrap mine in bubble wrap next time I take it out. Jane thought the welding experience was very rewarding as she sells safety equipment for Arco and can now relate the welding goggles/gloves to the job in hand. Daniel loved the paint spraying and wants to now have a go at my Boxster (!!!???). Unfortunately they both threw away the paper overalls otherwise I would have had them decorating next time round. Our thanks for organising this visit and also to all the staff at JCT600 Bodyshop for being so helpful and accommodating.

John, Jane & Daniel

Good to see everyone.
[:)]Great trip to Sheffield. Interesting and involving. The 'guess the estimate' competition was interesting to say the least! Almost felt sorry for insurance companies. The actual cost, at over £9000, was frightening[:-].
Many thanks to Peter Shaw and his team - especially their valeter, who was kept busy throughout the visit!

Yes a great visit with lots of interesting things to do and see. Could have done with a bit more time to fit everything in, perhaps set times for each activity if we go again??
Sandwiches and goody box were great and michael was in ecstasy painting a front bumper.

All in all a good experience and congrats to whoever came up with it.

Chris and Michael

FOR SALE
3M polish, shampoo and, quick detailer- contact me for prices!!!

What a great day out, (thanks to Ian & Peter) I have to agree with my colleagues the activities, food and goodie bag plus I got my car washed (twice in one day)

It just goes to show how expensive it is to run a Boxster [] £9,000 for a couple of scratches & a bit of a Dent (well done to Dave)

Glad to see Chris got a good price for the goodies on E-Bay (joking)

A bit disapointed the bumper I sprayed would not fit in the car

"C'est la vie"

Steve
