Pulled my voltage reg and looks quite worn, frazer part sell beru 14.5 type £30 and bosch one removed was 14v

Visually it looks like you can swap it with many other cross parts. But need to keep the correct slip ring measurement. Not sure if this is the hight off the prongs, but 28mm is the correct part for us.

Which is also found and volvo 740

Bosch 14.5 are priced £50/70 however iv found one for £8 here not sure is it 14v or 14.5

What's people thoughts?

Using the part code it's 14.7 voltage and these can be easily found on the net at £10.20 on ebay. What's people's thought's. Is this to high?

Ok well a little up date. I fitted the cargo voltage regulator, using tom barks app I'm getting voltage reading from ecu. On the app I'm now getting 14.1v with the head lights on. Above 2k at motorway curse I'm getting 13.8 with demisters on front and back. Engine seems to like it as well. I'm sure the lights are brighter as well. Best place iv found for a beru ger004 14.5 is eBay @£22 listed under BMW, this is same part sold for 928/944/968

Come again? £10.20 FOR cargo 14.7 Euro car parts as BMW part is £6.00 14.1v Beru one can be had for £22 14.5v (291286496880 eBay number )

Will report back once it's been in a bit. Safe bet would be beru 14.5 With engine running at idle from cold start Iv checked voltage with multi meter at battery 14.3 Auto 14.7 App was 15 Dash was 14 Dash generally reads lower then the app very rarely have I ever had over 13v Will try clean the foot ball things behind dash see if that makes a difference.

Ok I got the cluster out and used metal polish to clean the foot ball things. Didn't think it do much as they didn't look dirty or dull but cloth came up black, so I had high hopes. Didn't make a difference dash reads lower then everything else... However a Checking the cig voltage and it matches dash. So check there be pulling the cluster

I was reading about voltage regulators here [link=https://www.derf.com/an-overview-on-voltage-regulators/]https://www.derf.com/an-overview-on-voltage-regulators/[/link] and came to know about shunt regulators. Just curious to know where we use these in real life? They have not explained much about it. Any online references would also be useful.

been using the cargo ones for ages, they work fine,

get them from Wood Auto for about £4.50, buy all the bits to rebuild starters and alternators from them as well, great company.

Any voltage at full load between 13.8 and 14.5 is fine at 2000 rpm,
