VTS issues

Anyone else finding the VTS immobiliser a pain? Since we've had the new car a couple of months ago, must have had ten calls from the central control due to the separate fob system being off / not working / left at home....
On the surface the system makes sense but it's definitely not user friendly. It's almost impossible to tell if the fob is operating, there's a tiny intermittent flashing red light to show it is on, but you have to really study it to tell, and it switches itself off after a few days of inactivity (not sure exactly how long though). And you have to remember to take it with you every trip, but not attrached to your keyring. Must be even more confusing if you have two cars with the same set up!

I have this on my C2S but have never had a call in the ten months since buying the car and this is despite taking the car on a ferry and forgetting to contact the SOC as advised. I'm wondering whether mine is working and toying with the idea of deliberately leaving it at home just to test things out. The instructions that came with mine suggest actively switching off the card if it is not to be used for a long period of time; it makes no mention of an automatic disarming of the card.

We have VTS on the Cayenne and the Boxster .. Both work great .. We carry the Fobs in different little pouches .. One came with Sues last Bluetooth Sony Ericsson headset and the other is a SanDisk SDCard carrying pouch .

In just over a year we have forgotten the fob twice (well Sue has) and within 15 seconds and approx 500m of setting off we get the SMS and a call .. so its doing its job :)

I agree the flashing LED to check is a pain to see .. I have never had either of the Fobs "turn" off so maybe you have a faulty one ??

@ snarf - call the control centre and say you wish to do a test run . I do one every 3 months or so .. They will agree aapprox time for you to "steal" your own car and it does not count against the "false calls get charged"

We were called last night with a fob that has been in constant use in the car - so it may have been switched off by mistake or it's faulty. Control Centre told me that they automatically switch off after a few days inactivity.
Haven't been charged for any calls so far!

Coincidentally shortly after placing my previous post I did in fact call the SOC and asked them to verify that everything was working correctly, I didn't "steal" the car, in fact I didn't even go down to the garage, but I was advised that everything checked out ok. Re the ferry transport non-alert I was in effect told that the ships structure was probably acting as a Faraday cage.
