VTS Tracking Systems

Have finally placed order for a massive spec'd Cayman S - spent some considerable time considering the options list test drove anything available and just got carried away - my final dilemna which I can defer until nearer the delivery time of early May is the tracking system. I currently have Tracker on my Boxster S which unfortunately had tobe used when some XXXXXs broke into my house to nick the keys and drive off with my pride and joy - tracker and a police helicopter soon picked it up, but not before some admin problem at Tracker having to be sorted first.

Porsche have their VTS system, which I understand to be some form of Cobra equivalent - Thatcham 5.

Any ideas/opinions out there on a cost effective system for me to consider - still thinking on Tracker Horizon or the Cobra. Porsche seems a little expensive and is not obligatory on the Cayman unlike a Targa 4S that I spec'd up too for fun !

Final problem will be selling my B S - that's so long as my ex wife doesn't get wind of all this !!!

I spec'd the VTS system onto my Cayman S when I purchased it last March having had it on the previous 2006 Cayman S. Is it value for money? I honestly don't know. I think it is a purely personal choice based around peace of mind and that is a very personal thing. Certainly you appreciated it when the Boxster was stolen. There is always the slight conumdrum between do I want it back or would I prefer not to see it again particuarly if it is damaged goods. Maybe not helpful but I think this is a clear personal choice. Finally what spec did you go for as we all love to see what others picked..

A bit premature to mention this, perhaps, but a third-party tracker will mean (unless they change the rules) that you won't be able to extend the warranty.

This is still currently the case. Sad but true.

I do intend to put a VTS system on Cayman - initially the Tracker that I currently have - however I was not aware of the warranty problem - I have done a deal on that and have extended warranty after which I may not take it any further ? My spec is Cream White, full cocoa leather with Sports seats, PDK, PASM, Sport Chrono, Sports Exhaust, 19" Basalt Black Carrera S 11 alloys, Bi Xenon lights, PCM with navigation and sound system and audio interface, full climate control, heated seats, auto dimming mirrors/rain sensor, park assist and a few other interior goodies !! I cannot wait !! Yet to decide on a number plate a JB10 ??? Sorted great insurance - can't wait to get it on the track !

If its a brand new order, the OPC won't put a Tracker Horizon on it and they will specify that you have to go VTS option if you wanted a tracking device. Be prepared for the 'it will invalide the warranty if you put any other tracker system on your new car' line. Or if you do, I was told (in 2006 when VTS came out) by Porsche Insurance (Marsh Associates) that it would invalidate the electrical system and that P Cars GB won't honour any electrical warranty claims.....

I have taken on board these warranty comments, thanks - yes it is a new order - I spoke to the Porsche centre and yes the official party line confirms your comments but it is a grey area and an off the record talk, one gets a different response !! I can confirm that Porsche will not organise any other VTS system to their vehicles other than their own, unlike the Tracker Horizon they put on back in 2003 on my current Boxster S
