VW / 924 parts interchange.

Has anyone listed the parts that are common to VW and the 924 ?

I am thinking about replacement items such as cam belt tensioners, is it the same as many VW's use ?, I have a spare new Passat one that uses the 'two-pin' tool (for which I use a pair of sturdy circlip pliers) rather than a hexagon to turn.
What about :-
Front suspension top strut mounts
Track rod ends
Front struts (often described as VW 1303 in origin)
Wishbone ball-joints (Golf, Scirrocco ?)
Rack (is it Golf but with a slightly slower ratio ?)
Side-repeaters (Golf)
Door handles (Golf ? and anything else ?)

etc.
 
My early 924 ('79) with a dog-leg gearbox had a replacement reversing light switch that was VW - not sure which model.
It was supplied off-the-shelf by my local autofactors.
as it as on the top of the box it was a real s o d to fit even though I had the use of a ramp at the time...

 
Not much progress on this thread. Have just fitted VW Passat tensioner to 924 engine. Previous owner had fitted a new cambelt 200 miles ago but re-used tensioner. Having had two seize solid on two Passats I am now very wary of them.
The first seized one morning and luckily caused the belt to give a slight squeal so I switched off , removed belt cover, re-started engine very briefly and discovered pulley was locked solid. The second was on another 2 litre Passat that I bought 6 months later as a 'non-runner' thanks to a fuel pump relay fault. Thought it wise to change belt so took cover off .... this one had been seized for a while and the previous owner had been unaware. Belt was worn to half thickness and was through to Kevlar cords.
Fitted VW spare in place of 924 one by first checking length of thread in block as later VW ones do not have the built-in hexagon boss so hub is narrower.
Diameter and belt width are identical by the way.
Shortened bolt by about 5mm to ensure it did not 'bottom' but that still leaves more threads engaged than original so totally safe.
By the way - Haynes manual says :- "Turn the tensioning pulley in the direction of the engine rotation (counterclockwise) until the belt can just be turned 90 degrees"
Has anyone actually got a 924 that runs backwards ......?

The way to get to know your 924 better is to use the 'Haynes book of lies' by doing this you will have to do each job several times and get a closer relationship with your car...[8|][:-][:D]

Anyway, just found confirming detail on US 924 website :-
"Original has a hex for adjustment. Replacements do not. Standard VW/Audi part as in :- Audi 80 1.3, 1.5...2.0 1972 -, 80 Quattro ... 1982 -,
100 .., 100 Quattro ... 1976-1993, Coupe, Cordoba, Ibiza, Toleda, Caddy 1975 -, VW Corrado, Golf, Jetta, Passat, Polo 1972- "
