Excuse the rather long post, but a potential member has many questions before he buys his first 944. I' ve already replied to him but if anyone can help or has a suitable car for sale then contact him direct at:

Here is his email forwarded from Club Office:

Good afternoon Sue,

I live in the east London area.

I have been browsing your website because I am thinking
of purchasing a Porsche 944 lux in the near future. I have been
browsing
the web recently gathering information about this car and have found
the
944 lux to be the best
all rounder and the cheapest motor to buy (my wallet will be pleased).
(-:

I have been visiting the usual car trader websites and although I do
not
have my full budget as yet I thought it would be best to get in early
and check out the prices.
My budget will be approx. 2 - 3000 pounds. (I know I will not get much
for that sort of money) but I am sure you understand that although I am
on a very tight budget I do not want to end up with a complete heap.

I believe I missed the bargain of the century a few weeks ago :- 1984
944 lux with leather int. 90,000 miles. excellent condition. fsh
approx.
£2000. I was even tempted to ring up and put a deposit down, and then I
came crashing back to earth.

Could you tell me was this a realistic price?

Could you tell me where I could find price info? for this car. Glasses
and Parker' s guide only deal with newer models

I have not even seen one around East London. Due know of any member in
my area who owns one? (I know you can' t answer that question)

But I believe I need to get some feed back before I go to buy one.

Could you tell me where I could find price info. for this car. Glasses
and Parker' s guide only deal with newer models

To help me spread my horizons:- Is there any classified sections I
should be looking into ?

Any other websites ?

The information I have gathered has been very positive. Most people
reporting this is excellent car.

websites visited: Titanic, Porsche 911 world, classic cars. Am I right
to mention it is a classic car?)

Due to me living in the East of London the insurance companies have
added a few hundred pounds loading.

Are there any classic car insurance websites that may offer me a better
deal ? (Insurance may be the final decider)

When I find my ideal car . Should I ask an independent specialists to
check it for me?

Could you recommend any good reputable independent specialists in the
London area?

People have mentioned the 8v engine is virtually bomb proof. But it is
a
approx. 20 year old car.

Should I seek a warranty? Could you advise me where to look? AA and RAC
only do upto 10 years.

So many questions I would like to ask, but I do not want to bore you. I
know you are busy.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to finally say although I would not normally join a club.
If I purchase a 944 I would definitely join your one.

Thanks very much for listening to my plea.

I purchased my 1983 944Lux recently from a garage for £3000. It had 95,000 genuine miles and Origional fully stamped handbook. The interior was great and the outside was pretty good apart from a slight mis-aligned nose.

Since I had the car and previous to that a cheap 924 i ve had to put quite a few things right. If your buying one that cheap expect to need work of some kind. The problems on my 944 are more annoying than those on my 924 as their simple yet expensive problems. The 924 had dodgy electrics which i know is common. The 944 had great electrics and overall condition, the trim around the window dissapered and now the wing mirror is no more. It vibrates between 60 and 70 mph even though ive balanced the wheels and there a ratlle from summat under the bonnet.

All i can say you will have to expect a few niggly problems, but check all the expensive things like oil leaks, Pwr Steering Pump, Water Pump, water in the car, and Timing Belts.

Having just become a Dad i can no longer spend lots on it so ill have to put up with the problems until i can save up to fix them, but i still think its the greatest car in the world, even though it looks funny with 1 mirror
