Want to buy a Boxster 987 3.2S or 3.4S

As the title says I'm looking for a Boxster 987 3.2S or 3.4S.

A few stipulations : Black Leather and black roof, manual gearbox and we don't want the 'common' Arctic Silver colour.

My budget is £9-10k, will this get me a decent car or am I being unrealistic? I've seen a few advertised but ideally I want to buy a car from an enthusiast who has looked after the car and has kept it maintained properly.

Any suggestions are welcome and any suitable cars even more welcome [:D]

I would say a tad unrealistic
a decent 3.4S would more likely be 12-13k maybe a little more

I would like to think a 3.4S is unrealistic otherwise my car aint worth as much as I thought LOL,
also, im pretty certain from my research before buying my car that it is the 3.2 than is more expensive on road tax than the 3.4,

the engine was upped in BHP and made to run cleaner with the new DFi engine that was used.

For a well looked after Boxster owned by an enthusiast your looking at a 986 with £9-10K. A good 987 will be £12k plus for the 3.2 and £15k plus for the 3.4. There will be cheaper ones on Ebay etc but probably poor spec and condition.

To clarify the road tax a gen 1 987 3.2 is cheaper than a gen 1 3.4. The gen 2 3.4 cars have the DFI engines and are the lower road tax again

I agree with Tony - I think you are looking at a reasonably low mileage 986 S for that sort of money. I paid 10k for my 2004 986 S with 52k miles just over two years ago and they don't seem to have changed in price much. I think I was lucky to get mine for that price considering the mileage and spec - GT3 wheels, bose stereo, M030 Sports suspension, etc. You should be able to comfortably get that spec within your budget two years on.

As most people say, that price would get you a 986, but not a 987 unless it was right dog. For an 987 3.2 S with 40k on the clock you are looking around 16k from a specialist. Have a look at the links below, these cars are from RPM Specialist Cars in North Yorkshire. I bought my Boxster S from them a couple of years ago and they were superb and so was the car. Top guys and their cars are priced very sensibly.

The cars below are an absolute steal for the money.

There are plenty of 987 cars out there with 70-80k on the clock under £10k, but I will wait for a 3.2S that fits my requirements. I'm not after a very low mileage car, just a well maintained car that has been looked after with receipts for service work and general maintenance.

We all know that you will pay a large premium for a Specialist Dealer car as they have to make a living and want to make a justifiable profit, and their cars are often private cars that they have serviced regularly so why shouldn't I just cut out the middle man and find a good well maintained car that is being sold without adding in the Dealer premium on top?

I'm not in a rush to find a car and already in the last month I have seen more 987's come on the market with the prices creeping down slightly [;)]

Go 3.2 986 S - The 550 Anniversary (sometimes also called a spyder) has all the goodies plus some unique features. With you Budget you should be able to buy one with History and condition, rather than buy cheap at the 987 end of the market where you will be looking at high mileage etc.

The car at RPM looks great nice mileage and a history a 2.7 is plenty fast enough for our roads and more economical on fuel and road tax. Always found the 2.7 a sweeter engine more fun and feels nimble lighter.
As John said better to buy a lower mileage and history rather than a cheap poor example.
Good luck.
Cliff.
