Wanted 944 S2 or Turbo

I am looking for a 944 or 968 coupe or cabriolet. I have seen a 968 coupe locally for £7950 but with 150,000 miles on the clock. Its quite nice but the mileage does worry me.

Theres a few 944's cabs in mint condition going for £8-10K, but I must admit finding the right car is proving a nightmare[:(]

I dont mind a 944 or 968 but with my budget (circa £8K) would prefer a top class 944, but I dont want to spend £10K for concours -I just can't afford it.

I am looking to spend between £4-8k on a good condition (well looked after)vehicle.

Any cars that spring to mind, please, please let me know. I am having Porsche withdrawal symptons.

Hi Muzzer. Don't get hung up about mileage.

The oldest 968s are 15 years old and the youngest are 12. 10k miles per annum is simply not a problem for these cars as long as they have been maintained. The chances are that a higher mileage car will have had many things replaced over the years as they wear out. A super low mileage car 'could' be on the original shocks, brakes, clutch, camchaim, waterpump etc and will need replacing through age.

£4-8k budget will struggle to find you a nice 968, but you could find a good 944 S2 or a passable 944 Turbo

Good luck with the search

I'd suggest you look for a car that's still doing a reasonable mileage every year. These cars need regular use, & if they have just been sat around for the last 3 or 4 years will have lots of annoying little problems

The two mint condition 944's have got 41,000 and 47,000 miles on the clock and both have been Gargared/ SORN (i.e. not used) for the last 2 years.

This is the 968: - www.brownandjames.co.uk

If the 968 checks out and drives well then I would say it's a good price. Silver is uncommon and aircon is even rarer. Check the history for any work to the pinion bearings in the gearbox and also the cams and variocam set up

Always difficult to tell from photo's but the rear bumper looks a different shade of silver and the door cards look like 944 door cards rather than 968 ones (which were subtley different I think [&:])

Forget that - it does have normal 968 door cards. I was getting confused with the 10 seaker hi-fi option that has small round tweeters at the top of the door [:-]

Well it has gone up in value from £10 to £4000 fairly quickly :)
Probably worth at least 7k if the history is in order - not much good having a massive file if its all 6 years our of date,
Tony

I wouldn't commit to buy it without seeing it and doing the usual checks for rust etc, and you should probably get an independant report to ensure a good nights sleep...

Coatbridge isn't too far a detour off my daily commute.... if you want someone to go have a quick look for the usual potentially rusty areas etc (?)

With the light evenings I could probably manage to pop in on my way home one night?

Let me know.

Phil - buyer isn't answering their phone at the moment, but tonight is out anyway (I'm on duty to get the youngest to Beavers).

I'll arrange to pop in one other evening this week and have a good poke around (and take a camera if poss). Will come back to you.

Cheers,
Michael

The pics look nice (but any car can look nice in pics) and the description is written a bit like a car dealer would describe a car that he doesn't really know.

Worryingly their is no mention of the camchain or slipper ever being changed so there is a potential big bill there and any enthusiast should know about that. Also there is no mention of when the belts were changed just a mileage figure, if they are over 3 years old there is another big bill in the waiting.

It could be an absolute bargain at the current price if there is NO rust signs whatsoever. I may even bid myself [;)]
