wife has declared her desire to own one....Her first sign of interest in cars (my favourite subject)

Must strike while the irons hot.

seeking: 996 Turbo....manual...Comms pack
60-70k

OPC network currently has 27 cars listed (996 turbo coupe, manual, under 70K).
Use the search agent on their home page.

Good choice may I say, they are fabulous cars. Prices of 996TT have softened in recent months & if you buy privately I think you can get a nice low mileage 02 model (with the Bose & auto-dim/wipe included in the standard spec.) look for one with PCM included (to help re-sale) & a few other goodies you fancy for around £66k-ish privately. The only trouble is private guys ask too much so you have to work hard to get a a realistic price, the trade are offering £64k-ish for the same car.

Grant...Thanks for the feedback...where would you look for cars privately? Not bought a car privately for many moons.

Hi Lee, Top marques & the Sunday Times (mags. & websites) are the best there are loads to choose from, there are plenty of other places (P.Post, Pistonheads website, 911 world, GT etc) but these are the best two. When I got mine (nearly two years ago!!) I decided what spec I wanted, asked a couple of Porsche buyers for a trade valuation & looked to pay a little more privately, many weeks pawing, negotiating, checking. Look for the ones that have been advertised for a few weeks & are realistic on price after all the dealers phoning them & offering nothing!!
Great choosing a new car, stressful but fun, let us know how you get on & if you need any other info.
Regards
Grant

Thanks Grant

Wife is fairly adamant that she wants a silver one....I've seen a red one in the times that looks value presumably because its red but I happen to like red....just need to tell the wife that she does too.

if only it were that simple

Lee I notice on your post you have a 964RS, how long have you had it & will it be keeping the 996TT company or finding a new home?

Guards Red got all a bit passe for 911 turbos in the 1980's, and even as a self confessed 930 lover, I've always avoided the colour.
However, we had two Guards Red 996 turbos in the 30th Anniversary display at Brands Hatch, and they both looked stunning, especially with the classic black leather interior....and the Aerokit lends another dimension altogether!
If there's a decent saving to be had, go for red - you'll find yourself in pretty exclusive company (as if 996 turbo ownership weren't already exclusive enough!).

I'm afraid the RS is going nowhere. It's one of my all time favourites. However I would swap it for my unltimate Porsche...993 GT-2.(When I'm rich and famouse)

My good lady wife generally doesn't like Porsche's but was rather taken by the look of the Turbo...and only the Turbo....All that is left to do is convince her that RED is the colour.

It's not for my use....strictly her car.

Lee, My business partner is in the process of selling his 996T (Black) on SOR via our local OPC...I think the numbers HE wants are in your ballpark....the OPC (evans halshaw sutton) has it up for 68 with extended/extendable Porsche warranty, 25k m's and it has absolutely everything on it. Lt me know if you can't swing red but fancy the never ending cleaning challenge that is Black
