Hi Guys. I'm looking for 2 sets of track wheels for my 993 track car preferably bbs lemans style. Any ideas where i should look?

Have a look at these Steve...

have a scan through these as there are loads of different sizes available.

Hope this is of some use to you. Any chance of a few pics of your new motor Steve?

Steve, when I looked into BBS LM, they were not available in sizes suitable for narrow bodied 993....fine for wide bodied though with the odd spacer here and there to jiggle the offset.

In terms of price they didn't seem much different from the BBS racing aluminium wheels.

The speedlines are spot on, but really quite heavy, expensive and hardly maintenance free if used.

I use a set of 996 Carrera '02 wheels the 5 spoke wheels with offsets suitable for a narrow 993 without spacers etc... made by BBS they are about the lightest factory 18" wheel you can get for a Porsche....I use 888 on them, no experience of slicks and the actual requirement of the wheel to take the extra stresses involved?

In terms of searching, I placed a "wanted" ad in the classified section of this forum, a nice chap had exactly what I wanted within a few days!

Other than that, the only other time we tend to see decent wheels come up is if someone sells their car and off loads the spare track wheels....usually appearing on P/heads, here or the dreaded Bay......
Paul McLean sometimes has a set appear on the parts section of Gtclassics, I am sure we will keep our eyes and ears open, word of mouth seems quite effective in the RS world.

Hopefully Mr Howells will see this I think he had a cracking set of lightweight american wheels a while ago, probaly sold though.

When I looked for new rims I looked at the cargraphics etc but settled on a set of the BBS manesium race rims with gold centres. I think they look good, but importantly are light. The difference in weight compared to the speeedline boat anchors is noticable off the car.

I bought mine off Sean Lockyear (from whom I bought my car); try Thomas Schmitz too or Paul at GT classics.

Be careful if you buy elsewhere that they are round and not cracked!

Tom has various wheel sets for sale, check his website, also I think Colin at ninemeister has a set of bbs for sale though may need
some rims

The Cup wheels have magnesium centres and are much lighter than the Ali Speedlines --- 8.5"(53) front and 10"(60) rear --- Thomas has a set but only centre lock.

They are slightly different offsets but fill the arches well. Seem cheap on Bombacher as well --- if the offsets of those are correct.

I asked about them and it seems that these are also the basis for 5 stud wheels where the stud holes are drilled out of the Magnesium centres giving (in theory) the best of both worlds.

The Forged Alloys that Paul had are with me --- Fikse FM10's. They now have PS Cups on them !

I would get a set of the BBS Race wheels (not LMs). They suit the look of the 993 much better than the more "modern" looking BBS Le Mans. I would get the aluminium centre version (newer version). I would not fit them until dismantled, and the rims anodysed, even if they look less shiny as a result. They will be mainenance free then. The non-anodysed BBS rims a re total pain in the behind.
JC (AKA 993rsr) who you know can get a good deal on these wheels direct from BBS. Please don't overlook the anodysing bit Steve! The wheels aint cheap but they look classy on the 993. Just IMHO of course.

Steve as Johnny says for bbs, direct from bbs motorsport,i have the contacts if you want them.
mk1 gt3 wheels fit also i think,need to check.

Johnny, I need to get my BBS race mags refurbed and was going to get them anodised at the same time - have you come across anyone who is able to take on the job ?

thanks,

Jamie

Nick,
Thanks, you were my initial thought - I know you re-anodize the Fuchs wheels, just wasn't sure whether the mag centres and three piece nature of the BBS wheels might over complicate the issue. At the risk of hi-jacking yet further, could you p.m. me a rough quote for a set of four 17" BBS wheels, rims reburbed and anodized, centres sprayed back to gold (currently silver), including tyre removal and re-fitting. I can get the wheels to you and pick up.

Thanks a lot .................. now back to the original topic ...................... (sorry !)

Jamie
