hi guys

as the title states, I'm after an old oval dash, the type of thing that you want to get rid off or throw away. I want to get on and recover my own dash but thought if I could pick up an old surplus to requirement dash, I could play around and see how easy it is to fix the cracks, mine has a couple that I'd need to fix. The colour isn't important, just needs to be close to me (North London) and at throw away price, free would be perfect...:)

Cheers

Pete

Thank's David...I had seen your thread, that's what gave me the idea to follow suite.. alas there's not much on eBay right now and certainly, nothing close to me so thought I'd try here while waiting for something to turn up...was also looking for the cheapest option having just spent more money on some bodywork...wife will kill me if I spend much more....:)

cheers

Pete

I was thinking similar Pete - having read David's thread it looks bloody temping! The previous owner of mine (or before him) had mounted a phone or something on dash and it's cracking on the top. Additionally my plastic dash strip / IP is damaged near the vents... clock broken (standard) etc and I didn't know if anyone had tried fixing these?

Whilst researching now I've briefly seen this.... http://www.jageng.com/garage9/product_info.php?products_id=155

Its a company that make custom - presumably stick on style covers but i'll need a proper read tonight - bit pricey around $250 mark but does have delete clock option! (money saver for me!)

You can buy a clock repair kit off eBay for about £40 usually. And the dash trim should set you back about the same amount from Porsche too ??

I have recovered a couple over the years, you can get a good match of most of the Porsche colours and textures. My tip from experience is buy a cheap spray gun and use spray contact adhesive, not the brushable stuff, as any gelling of the glue cause lumps which even when set make the dash have a texture like cellulite on a ladies thighs!! Spraying the glue thinned with a spray gun makes a nice even coat, even if a little cob webbed looking if you get the mix right.

I work from the windscreen side back, stretching and gluing as you go with a hot air gun to hand to help the material comply with the curves.

The leather kits like used by ElDavo is not something I have used, but look great.

If using vinyl (dashboard stuff, not graphic stuff), the hardest part is the vents without them looking a mess.

Quite satisfying to do though!

I'd agree about using a spray adhesive although many aren't as good as the brushable ones. You do need to be careful to avoid lumps though.

If using a leather kit then you need to work towards the windscreen however as you need to line the stitching up around the binnacle first and then work away from this.

Great job eldavo!

I've had the dash out in my non aspirated 944 To repair the cracks which were bad!

i wish there was this kit out years ago when I did mine as I repaired and sprayed mine with a flexible vynl black spray which I got from the body shop and had to use a spray gun with compresor, but always wanted a leather stitched dash.

this is very nice and one day maybe I will cover my turbo dash ...??????
