Wanted: front indicator lenses

Hi everyone!

This is my maiden post on the forum, so please go easy!!
I'm looking to replace both front indicator lenses on my 2.4S, as the originals are badly cracked and literally falling to pieces.
I need the ones with black surrounds, not silver. Anyone got a pair for sale or know a good place to buy them? New or used would be ok, providing they're original spec and in mint condition.

Many thanks,

Pete.

from experience I don't like the 'repro' ones available from most places. I have some genuine Porsche ones fitted to the front of mine & they are superb .... at the rear I have some repros & IMHO they look crap, the orange seems slightly 'milky' compared to OEM stuff

Thanks, that's good to know. I was wondering if the repro ones were any good. Are the OEM ones made by Bosch?
Here's a picture of one of the cracked ones. Note that the indicator has a clear lens, not the usual orange. Anyone know why? It's an Italian car in original condition, but not sure about these odd lenses.

Italian cars had unique lenses. I use repro ones with no problems at all. If you are doing concours [;)], the judges would probably mark you down for repros as some don't have all the correct Bosch markings

my 2.4S is Italian too. I have a NOS pair of OEM Bosch Italain lenses sat on my shelf in their box [:D] ... they are not for sale though [;)] . As mentioned I have euro spec fitted at the moment

Nick, the repro rears are deffinatly different & it is easy to tell the difference if you have 2 cars parked next to each other, one with repros & one with genuines. BTW the repros I'm talking about came from a company in the South east ( RB ) and I was assured I wouldn't be able to tell the difference [:'(]

I see what you mean about the rears. My OEM ones look like this. Luckily they're fine, so it's just the fronts I need. Looks like my best bet is a pair of Bosch Euro spec with the orange lenses. Repro ones probably won't match my OEM rears if the orange is different.

Bosch Euros are £70 each from here http://www.type-911.co.uk/gp_lightlenses.htm Anyone bought here or know anywhere cheaper? Ideally I'd like to keep the Italian spec, but I haven't seen those for sale anywhere.

for Italian lenses, try Andy ( lightweight911) on DDK ( www.ddk-online.com ) . He is out of the country for a couple of weeks but he has been able to source these in the past.

Type911 is where I source a lot of my parts. He is pretty straight up about parts so give him a call.

Your car looks very tidy, any more pics ?

Thanks, here's a few more pics. Had this car about 5 years now. It's very original, just needs a little detailing like the cracked front lenses and perhaps a repaint on the stone chipped front spoiler. Other than that it's pretty much as it rolled out of the factory. I haven't driven it much over the last couple of years, so thought about selling it, then decided to enjoy it more! So it's now receiving a bit more of the attention this great car deserves.

Yours looks good too, that's a cracking photo of it in action. And is the rolling road shot over at Bob Watson's? Had mine tweaked there a few years ago.

Took mine down to Bob Watson in 2005. Mainly out of curiosity, but also due to a bit of popping on the overrun and a low idle. It was pretty much on the money at 188 hp. Can't remember the rpm, but I think it peaked a fair bit lower down than yours. I'll check my paperwork tonight. A few simple (for Bob at least!) tweaks with a long screwdriver and now it idles smoothly and the popping has gone.

Edit:

My Bob Watson figures were actually:-

Power 185 PS @ 6300 rpm (factory spec 190 PS @ 6500 rpm)
Torque 214 Nm @ 5670 rpm (factory spec 216 Nm @ 5200 rpm)

So I can't complain about that! Note that we never took it above 6300 rpm on the dyno and the power was still climbing [:D]

ORIGINAL: lacymr

I`ve just installed repro lenses, look good, although they dont have the Bosch markings.

Did you replace front and rear at the same time? From the above posts I'd be worried about the fronts ending up with a totally different orange than the OEM rears. It's not a big deal, but as the rest of the car is so original it just doesn't feel right fitting repro lenses in this case!

I think i remember seeing that car for sale just over 5-6 yrs ago..

Radio delete.. Non-sunroof.. Italian car..

Was it in the back of Classic & Sportscar in the section 'Driving our ads'?

Looks great btw..

Yep, that's the very one, you obviously have a good memory! I've still got a copy of that magazine. It turned out to be as good as they said it was :) I bought it in 2002.
