Hi,

Can anyone confirm what size rear torsion bar is fitted to a 1987 turbo.
From what i can gather earlier turbos may have been fitted with a thinner 23.5 mm bars, and later ones with the 25.5mm bars.

If anyone has had the bars out of there 1987 car, let me know, and then I will have to swap them.

I don't know anyone who has gone to coilovers and removed their bars completely. In fact I have a feeling Andy (Racerhead) put bars back in after experimenting.

Fen and all,

I have run a 944S2 racecar with and without and not surprisingly there are pros and cons (much has been discussed on other threads). In terms of handling difference I cannot say I have noticed much in terms of any advantage one way or another, although I have not had a lot of mileage in the car this year due to mechanical and family illness issues.

However, the biggest requirement for someone racing or tracking is the need to be able to make adjustments to suspension geometry in an efficient manner ie not having to drop the rear suspension assembly on TB set up. In my case I now have access holes in the sills that allow the TB's to be adjusted or changed in about 30 mins.

Technically I prefer using TB's and assister springs as it is a more robust set up that no TB's and coil overs. Upper shock mounting bolts can bend (mine have) and the lower alloy trailing arm shock mounting point has been known to fail.

But if anyone wants more info on the approach I have taken then pls call, I'd be happy to chat.
