My wife and I are going to be in the area of Beachy Head this next weekend in our Porsche, staying on a B&B basis, and require your recommendations please for good places to go to for evening meals.

Thanks for trying to help.

I've just looked on Tripadvisor and the reviews for both of these places are dire!

Hope I can find somewhere nice to eat!

Hi David,

The Hungry Monk at Jevington, near the Long Man image on the Downs is a wonderful place, if a tad expensive. You will not be disappointed.

regards,

John 'Jeb' Jones

It's the wrong side of Sussex for us to comment as we're about 45 miles away, but we have had some nice lunches at the Eight Bells in Jevington. Good price, good quality but a real local pub feel. So it may not be the place if you want to go somewhere 'special'.

I've also heard good things about the Hungry Monk.

If you ever want to eat in the Arundel/Goodwood area, then I can really help you!

hi i did say it was a couple of years ago they were both good then !!!!!,
but to one that is great but about 26 miles away the five bells at chailey the guys there are great the food even better,
if your there still on the 31st about ten am they have a breakie meet theres usualy a wide selection of cars turn up.
im going see 2 post under your one on r23 alternative breakie meet for more info.
have a nice time wherever you go to.

Thanks for the suggestions, but what did we do in the end?

We went to a pub, located on the edge of the village green, very picturesque, with very polite, efficient staff, a good rapport between the staff and courteous service.

Food delivered very quickly after ordering and a fantastic pint in the 5% ABV Legless Rambler.

Where?

The Tiger Inn at East Dean.

And the second night - we went there again. Why, when you've had a great experience, would you want to risk a second rate one when you're only in the area for two nights?

And the accomodation was first class too;

They strive to improve on near perfection. Not cheap, but various complimentary items and fantastic service make for a great stay. Literally nothing was too much trouble. Good to see people really trying hard (and succeeding) to provide a leisure break of quality.
