Warning! Battery/Generator

Has anyone else had issues with this warning light coming on - Warning - Battery/Generator

I've been to OPC twice now with this just to be told a) There's nothing wrong with it just keep an eye on it and, b)We've fully charged your battery now and it will be fine, but keep an eye on it...

...rough translation I think is they don't know what's wrong so they just fob me off...

This mornings scenario was typical...Started car after it being parked overnight- no warning light on. Did a short journey (half mile) to nursery - parked up and no warning light on. Was in nursery 10 mins, started car up and warning light was on immediately. Drove 2 miles to filling station and after fuelling light had gone off and remained off for my 40 mile commute to work.

Any ideas? This happens roughly every 2 weeks.
 
Looks like your alternator is on it's way out. What voltage reading are you getting?
Exchange ones cost around £250-300, new ones nearer £1000.
Mine died a few weeks back and I am refurbing it myself (there is a cheap diode pack you can buy to fix the problem) to sell on.
 
Voltage reading is always just above the 14 marker, i've never noticed it drop below.

Would/should the alternator show up on the diagnostic they [allegedly] do at the garage?

I don't recall a specific fault on the diagnostics for the alternator. What tends to happen is that other control modules can show faults related to low voltage.
