Warning light

Hi,

Can anyone help me, my friend has a 964 that when under acceleration the general warning light comes on for around 3 seconds and then goes off. Has anyone ever come across this before? It doesn't do it all the time but it is now becoming more frequent?

James

First, the general warning light should be accompanied by a specific warning light in the dials coming on at the same time. He/she may not have noticed this as the main warning light dominates your vision or the relevent bulb isn't working.

When it happened to me in the same type of situation as your friend, it turned out that the spoiler wasn't coming up.

may it be the brake fluid level warning... fluid rushing back on acceleration then levelling

just a thought..

Thanks for the replies.

I will ask him to check to see if other indicators are present also when it does it as well as check the oil and brake fluid levels.

Will let you know what happens.

Cheers

James

Also get him to check if he can manually raise the spoiler and if so if he can see it raise up automatically (should come up at 75 Kmh (45 mph?).

On the same subject, a mate of mine has just had a respray and after the rebuild his spoiler warning light is on permanently, Any thoughts before taking it back?

Thanks,

Bob

It is possible the fan belt is slipping. Check to make sure it feels tight and there is no oil etc on it. Also check the small belt warning roller switch - about half-way down on the rhs of the belt as you look at it.

Cheers Everyone for the advice,

My mate has now topped up the brake fluid, done an oil change and replaced the brake pads. This now seems to have sorted the warning light issue. Couldn't tell you which bit did the trick, but again thanks everyone for all your help.

James
