Warning Lights Problem

toals

Turned on the ignition today and discovered that two of the many warning lights were not lit. The missing lights are Air Bags and Seat Belts. All other warnings light up as normal. Tried switching on and off a few times but no difference. Took car for a a run in the sun in the hope it might play ball but still no lights on ignition switch on ! Anyone had this issue and know where to look for a fix ?
Thanks for any guidance on this; car runs fine and all lights are out once engine is started.

Seamus,

Hopefully it's something as simple as failed bulbs. Unusual for both to fail simultaneously though, unless there's a problem with the panel.

No doubt Richard H will be along soon with some other suggestions.

I don't think the facelift clusters have bulbs. I think they are (irreplaceable) LEDs.

The Porsche tester can display if the signals are reaching the cluster, and IIRC you can illuminate the warning lights in a test. That's probably the starting point.

Are there no simple (and cheap!) solutions these days to what used to be trivial problems like this Richard..?

After further investigation it looks like the Air Bag light comes on for a few seconds and then goes out; it will not come on again unless the key is removed from the ignition and then reinserted; is this the way it should work ? Was wondering if the ignition key (electrics) could be causing the problem. Looks like a visit to the guys at Wrightune to see if there are some faults recorded.

Thanks for the replies, will advise on the solution if it gets resolved.

Yes, that's exactly how it should work! I thought you meant it didn't come on when switching on.

Funny how things take a few years to notice........ [;)]

Richard,

Sometimes we see what we expect to see not what is actually there ! Still, a few more years with the 996 and then trade it in for a zimmer frame.........ha ha.

Wrightune fixed the seat belt warning light problem; the culprit was the seat belt receptacle, the sensor/ micro switch was broken.
