Warning lights

Assistance required please.
My 99c4 has issues, it has had very little use for the past few months, the battery would not hold a charge so that has been changed, but I still have many warning lights staying on, abs, psm, rear spoiler , battery, brakes etc. I noticed the other day that the voltage meter only shows about 10 volts when running and the windows are slow, I reckon the alternator is not working and I reckon I shall trailer the car to my service people rather than risk a breakdown.

Thanks

Question number 1 is how was the car prior to this period of inactivity? Is it dry stored indoors or out in the weather? Sounds like you've already changed the battery - yes? Can you bench charge bother old and new batteries? My instinct is to give the battery a full charge ideally disconnected from the car. See what difference that makes. Internet opinion does suggest that these cars should be left on trickle charge if unused for long periods of time as some electrical systems do continue to draw charge. My own experience is that heavy parasitic drain through, say, a faulty component could lose as much charge as a trickle charger puts in which is why I suggest disconnecting the battery from the car. If your voltmeter is only showing 10 instead of 14 volt charging with the engine at about 2000rpm I'd agree that you do have a problem there. HTH

If you've replace the battery with the CORRECT one (This is critical) As Richard says it sound like the Alternator If you bench change the battery - or at least disconnect it You should be able to get it to an Indy. Euro Car Parts will supply a replacement. It doesn't NEED an Indy o fit it if you have a long way to drive. As long as its genuine Porsche a competent garage can fit it - if necessary get it check at the Indy afterwards

Gents Thanks for the reply's. The battery is new Bosch with the correct rating. The car has usually spent its life in the garage, it did spend about 6 weeks outside due to a house move and the garage being full of other 'stuff' ! Since Christmas time it has resided in its new garage. The old battery would get charged and then drain itself , hence the replacement ,it was over 4 years old. New Battery been in about a month, starts fine but dash warning lights stay on when running, so I reckon alternator , when I get time I shall get it sorted, building a new house changes some priorities. 75pno

I would suggest that you keep the Battery charged Either trickle it or give it a weekly boast When the Porsche DEalers where waiting for the replacement engines for the recent 911 problem they did not keep the batteries charged and it cause oroblems
