Warranty and Service Advice Needed

Hi
I have been trying to get a Porsche warranty on my 2002 C4, but have now been told that because the previous owners did not service it according to the recommended service schedule I will not be able to get a Porsche warranty.[:(] Does anyone know if there are any other companies that offer some sort of warranty without having to many requirements? Also does anyone which OPC may be offering discounts on servicing at the moment?Cheers

Just taken a look at the difference in a minor service and major, it dosen't seem like a lot extra is done for an extra £200.
Is it better to have a minor service done, pay the extra for a filter change then carry out a 111 check which then works out nearly the same price for a major service but more is checked?

They have said the requirements include a 111 check (which I had done when purchased) and full service history which is carried out following Porsches service intervals, ie get it checked yearly even if it has done less then 200miles in a year!

What is the cars service history? The fact that the services were
not carried out at an OPC is irrelevant as long as approved parts were used
and the timing was fairly correct. A friend just bought a Cayenne with a 4 month gap in his OPCSH and
they still gave him a warranty.

Different OPCs have different attitudes to this, so try shopping around

Why are you so keen to maintain an OPC history? Personally, I'd get it serviced by a good indy and save some £ (and dare I say it, get a better job done...)

Main reason is resale value, I would rather go to my local indy who I trust but many people like to see a OPC stamp rather then someone they haven't heard of.

With respect, it's a five (nearly six) year old car. I would venture that when you come to sell it, the vast majority of those interested will be enthusiasts who will know the value of a reputable specialist's stamp in the book. You don't say where you are but in the south-east, the essential full history will be more than acceptable if it has a stamp from JZ Machtech, Parr or many others. My car (2001) had OPC servicing until year four and since has always been serviced at Wrightune, a well-known specialist. It certainly won't devalue the car or reduce it's saleability. If you're still in any doubt, there are some GT3 owners out there who won't allow the OPCs to touch brand-new cars!!

I agree with John, I don't think having FPSH is going to make much difference
come resale time for a car of your age.It may make it easier to sell but that's all. My current experience of selling my car has been
that most buyers are very price sensitive and really have surprisingly
little knowledge of the car (even though most are previous Porsche owners)
One person even asked me to justify why he should buy my car over a fully
loaded SLK! I wanted to hang up.

Conversely, you should have asked him why you should sell your pride and joy to someone who clearly knows nothing about cars. I'd have put the price up by a grand on the spot. [:D]

LOL. Should I have done that before or after he asked for a £4k discount
because he saw a silver pre-facelift coupe on Autotrader for that much?

Deep breath! Aaand release [8D]

If you really want to keep the OPSH then OPC Newcastle offers 50% discount on labour and 10% on parts if you're a member and the car is 6 years old, but this may be too far for you to travel. Don't know of any other OPCs offering the same.

Cambridge OPC also does a good deal on servicing on cars that are 5+ years old i think it is 25% off labour per hour and 10% off all parts if you are a PCGB member. Still more expensive than a good Indi but i worked out the travel time and hassel made the OPC a better option. OPC do vary some treat you like a number others have a big intrest in the brand. You can always tell if they have older cars in for servicing such as 964's and 993's always good to see.

If you are not far from Cambridge OPC give them a call they are very helpful.

Thanks for the replies, but I decided to take it to opc Sutton, just for the first year.
Not impressed[:(]
Having only owning the car 3months and travelling 800 miles and having a 111point check, guess what, they managed to find a list of things wrong!
I now have a new oil leak at the filler rack, faulty oil pressure sender, signs of coolant header tank leaking, tie rod excessive play, ignition coils cracked, clock cluster cracked, cigar lighter not working.
Now must I be the unluckiest owner for all these problems to occur in 3 months?
The funniest bit is that on the way home I pressed the cigar lighter and it worked fine and everything else looks and works the same as it did 3 months ago.
On the plus side, the they did give me a members discount and Sutton reckon I can have a warranty without being worried about past service history.[:D]
