I know this a subject that has been debated and disussed and talked about ad naseum. So I am sorry to bring it up again but how does this sound to you for my 2004 TT:

Warranty Direct
Yearly mileage: 12,000
Includes betterment (no discount on parts for age)
Unlimited claims
Cover for failure at MoT or service
Cover against failure caused by uninsured parts
Parts (irrespective of age) & Labour (up to £200) per hour covered subject to £50 excess
Covered parts: braking system, casings, clutch, cooling systems, electrics, ECU & computers, engine (*all internally lubricated parts), flywheels and drive plates, fuel system, gearbox, ignition system, oil seals and gaskets, steering, transmissions, turbochargers, wheel bearings, fuel system and airbag system.

£1,340.00 for 1 year.

What do you think?

That's an awful lot of money, what are you trying to insure against. That's the equivalent of about 20 hours labour, or a clutch 2/3rds of the cost of returning your turbo's. If its an engine blow up, the risk is way lower than with a std 996.

If you are planning to do this for say 4 years, then that's £5360 which would just about cover a basic rebuild, so the question is cost vs risk

I'm one of the unfortunate people who had an IMS failure in my C4 - which I had had from new. The Porsche annual warranty had run out and the engine rebuild cost me £8k with Hartech.

So for me, peace of mind is worth paying for.

No IMS on Turbos, bottom end from 964/993

Sorry to hear that, that's why i don't understand why people pay £20k+ for C4s when they can have a much more reliable Turbo for similar money. £8k rebuild means an awful lot of associated damage, normally £5-6k at Northways.

Hi,
Im with WD for my Turbo with almost the exact same policy as they have offered you. They started of at the same price but agreed on £1100 and in the words of the salesman when I called them on the last day of the month; 'its the end of the month and we want your business'.
Ive had either a Porsche warranty or WD warranty for the six years Ive owned the car and again personal choice but would not be without one.
Good luck,
Donald.
P.S. Ive made one claim and they could not be more helpful.

I too had a chat with WD for a policy. They quoted me £1200 for a C2 (2003). I rang Porche up and got a quote, while WD may seemly give more for the money, Porsche was still cheaper. Eventually they kept phoning me and dropped it to £800 ish. I am still thinking about it.

Faint disinterest and you will be thanking me.

I just had my engine rebuild as cylinders one and two had some scratches in the lining. WD refuses to pay as they say 'debris' has entered the engine and caused the failure. There are no signs of debris entering and travelling through the engine though. For now I am still debating with them but in short it just shows me that they will do their best to not pay and I will never buy a third party warranty again.

WD are just another insurance company - probably no better and no worse - but as most of us know, the default position of any insurance company is to find a way of not paying out.

With regard to the Turbo being a "better car" car than the C2 and C4's, it's always a matter of opinion, but you'll find that the "whole life running costs" will be much greater for the Turbo's than the C2 and C4.

IMHO the C2 is closest to the original philosophy of Porsche, apart from the GT3/GT2 etc. but then I'm biased [:D]
