Warranty & servicing

Apologies chaps but another newbie question which I am sure has been asked before! Is the OPC warranty still valid even if the owner has their 996 serviced at a specialist: sepcifcially Northway or JZ? I understod that it was ok so long as they used only official parts but woudl appreciate understanding others experiences. I will be using Reading Porsche for any claims so particularly appreciate any experiences from 996 owners who have gone down this route.

Many thanks.

Not a problem. My car is under OPC warranty but is serviced by my local independant. (Sports & Classic nr Knutsford)
As long as official Porsche parts are used and the service schedule is followed the warranty is valid.

Phil,

I have thought about the same myself. I have the Porsche extended warranty & have considered using an Indy for servicing. My only reservation so far has been the possibility of the OPC not being as "helpful" if a warranty issue arises. Hence I have stayed with the OPC. If anyone has experience of going back to OPC with a warranty issue (& serviced at an Indy) then I would be pleased to hear their experience.

When I bought my MY03 C2 996 it had been serviced as part of the deal by PCT. It then went to Sutton Coldfield OPC for the warranty inspection, so that i could have the official Porsche warranty. They advised at the time that there was no problem with the service having been carried out at PCT. It has been into Sutton Coldifield since for a couple of warranty issues which have been sorted without question. However I am undecided whether to take it to the OPC for its service in September or to Zentrum. I will probably end up with the OPC servicing it and then any 'additional' work that may be required I will then have this carried out at Zentrum with official parts so as to ensure the warranty is kept in tact. However I am sure that regardless of who and where the work will be done, Porsche will be more than happy to take my £825 at warranty renewal time :)

Just got my renewal notification through for the Extended Warranty and the price is now £895.00 last time it was £725.00 Do you think it is worth it on a 32,000 C2 Cab. 1999

I spoke with Porsche Guildford who said they could do nothing. I did 250 miles last year. I did explain that they would not only loose the price of the Warranty plus I would now have the car service at GT1 so they would now also loose the service business as I could now have the car serviced by an indipendant specialist... They could not give a stuff!!!!!

Are there any threads on the Warranty and is it worth taking it out again at £895.00???? They should be wearing a mask and at least kiss you before they try to ..... you!

I hate to be a killjoy, but if you only plan to do 250 miles this year sell the car. Put the cash in the bank where it won't depreciate (as fast) and use the £895 to hire a 911 cabrio for a weekend or two during the year. No service costs, tax, MOT, etc, etc.

Absolutely.Whatever is the point in owning such a car and only doing 250 miles a year.

I was talking to Mike at Zentrum at lunchtime and he was saying that he has customers that get him to service thir cars, but have official warranties. My car was serviced at an Indy when i bought it and once the Porsche warranty was on it, Sutton OPC have been fine with a couple of warranty claims i have made. Steve

Well thanks chaps! Perhaps not the exact answer I was looking for but point taken! I have been very busy and spent most of last year out of the UK. I hope that won't be the case this year.

My 911 is in fantastic condition, would go as far as tgo say Mint! Selling the car and the the hasle of car hire? It's not really an option plus the cost of finding a new car when your ready to buy...

My question was just that the cost has gone up from £725 to £895 and just wanted some feedback on that, and is it worth it?? I understand that it is an insurance policy but that is some rate hike!!!!

If everybody complains to Porsche about the jump in cost will they not take notice or am I just being silly to think we as the user could change anything. Now that is really sad...

As has been said, compared to other 'premium' car brands, it is still very good value, you get a courtesy car when work is being carried out, and you get Europe-wide Porsche assist thrown in (basically the RAC, but they treat Porsche customers with highest priority after women).

Personally, I have had several thousand pounds worth of claims this year, all carried out with no quibble. My car has been under warranty it's whole life and always serviced by an OPC and has mostly motorway miles under its belt.....so you can never tell.

A tough one... £895 will seem like nothing if the engine lets go, or the gearbox breaks.

On the other hand, if you don't have a claim in the year, you'll feel you've wasted £895 (and don't forget you may have to shell out for the 111 point inspection too, a further £200ish).

At the end of the day, it's insurance, nothing more. What price peace of mind?
