warranty / servicing

I have a 3.2s boxter 986 2004 - 30000 miles, it is covered by a porsche factory warranty until june this year> I live in the north west and would like some advice as to whether I should stick with the porsche warranty or consider an alternative package such as hartechs (bolton) service plan or any alternate option - does anyone out there have any ideas for me to consider.
Cost is an issue but not at the expence of getting the best deal for the car.
regards
Paul

Do you mean extended warranty as the factory warranty is 2 years which would have lapsed at least a year ago?

Seems obvious that it is covered by an extended warranty from Porsche.

I am interested in the same question as my car is identical in age and mileage and Porsche warranty, right down to the month!

I am erring on the side of renewing the warranty for re sale value alone..... plus my seat base broke and it took the dealer three days to fix, try paying for that one..... ouch.(covered by warranty)

Servicing seems relatively reasonable on the 04 models as it will probably only need one service in the 3 yrs i intend to own it due to the longer intervals so i will probably stick with the dealer.

For interest in the North West, IMO Chester Porsche seem much better than Bolton and i drive twice as far to go to Chester every time.

yep its the extended warranty from porsche direct. I like the idea of a service plan from say hartech but if its going to hit the resale in say 2-3 years then perhaps the porshe warranty is the one to stick to ??? any advice would be welcome.

Look at it this way, the next service is a 4 year 48k mile jobbie - thats £590 at an OPC, plus brake fluid change (every 2 years) at £112, spark plugs at £132 and the multi V belt at £62. Thats before they start the usual ££££ patter of brake corroded, aircon rads, air con clean out etc etc etc. At an OPC you could easily make £1000 for the next service.

Go to Ninemeister in Warrington and the same lot will be done for £550, which saves you £450 to pay half of the Porsche warranty renewal. There is no issue with indepedent servicing on a 4yr+ car, some see it as a benefit ! and will not affect any warranty claim provided the servicing and parts use genuine Porsche items and methods. Bear in mind that the Porsche warranty includes full euro breakdown/recovery which itself is around £140 from AA/RAC.

Use an indi for servicing, Porsche warranty.

Hi Rickster
I had an excellent experience at Bolton OPC and I know of others on this forum who have too. In fact my post No. 8 >HERE< explains how satisfied I was with the work that was carried out and how professional they were. I have also posted it below for interest.
What a shame you didn't have the same experience.
I have used Road Range many times prior to them moving to Chester, but I have to say that Bolton beats them hands down IMHO. Great bunch of guys.

What great service these guys at Bolton OPC give! The technician that did my car was a fantastic guy "" Paul Correl - took me and the wife around the car whilst it was up on the ramps and explained what he had done showing us the new exhausts and other places under the car. Paul was a real enthusiast and I know he looked after the car for us as if it was his own.

Then he started the car "" wow!!! - what a sound that sports exhaust gives "" there is no way that it will be switched off "" even for the neighbours!!! I love how it quietens in the mid cruising range between 3500-4500 rpm and then comes in again. An awesome sound "" well worth the expense.

The service picked up a few items that I mentioned above and the tracking needs sorting ASAP and I hope to be able to find someone near to Preston as the OPC price was just ridiculous. It's a menu priced item at £245 (+vat ??)

Whilst the car was on the ramps in the workshop and ready to go I did asked them to fit new plastic spark plug tubes as it was quite obvious from the staining that they needed doing too. They did tell me about this when they called me the day before and would have fixed it for me, but as I misunderstood what they said to me so it was my own fault. Paul stayed past his finish time for another hour to fit them "" that is what I call service and a credit to the OPC.

One final thing.
The day before I picked up the car the service adviser called me and asked me if I wanted the car washing "" he said that Paul had noticed that I used Zymol and didn't want to wash it without my consent. No worries I said, as long as the sponge is clean go ahead. As it turned out he washed the car the day we picked it up using his own wool mitt and bucket brought in from home. Now that is not only excellent service "" but dedication too.

Needless to say a letter of commendation has been sent to the dealer principal.

All in all an expensive visit, but well worth it and overall a very pleasant experience.

Just be aware of what the Porsche warranty does NOT cover. Its quite a lot including as I found out to my cost Wheel bearings and a fractured Exhaust trim piece (the pipes at the end that bolt onto the Silencer box. After much discussion I did get the Exhuast cost back and half the wheel bearing cost though so you might think this is reason enough to keep to the porsche warranty.

Yes it was obvious to me but I just wanted to highlight that the Extended Warranty isn't the same as the Factory Warranty.
