Warranty direct - only company to include wear and tear ! not sure how good any warranty is that dosn't include this !!! They are not cheap but in my experience are good at paying claims. RMS, Water pumps, shockers, tensioners, bushes, MOT failures etc etc and engines !

I have just purchased a 2008 997 4S has 66k miles the seller had a 111 point inspection done at Porsche ctr Edinburgh the idea was that when it passed I would purchase a 2 yr warranty from Porsche, the car passed the inspection ok but we can not get the warranty as it has a non Porsche battery 1 yr old Bosch not good enough, and the car has different n rated Michelin pilot sports front to back tyres are all 4mm plus so lots life ,this does seem a bit odd as neither parts are covered ,any way enough rant can anyone recommend a good aftermarket warranty
Cheers Kerr

Have to agree with last reply. Warranty Direct on my 2006 C4S cost around £1500 for 2 years. See my recent post on collapsing suspension for a bit more on the subject. Enjoy your car! Andrew

Porsch are absolute Bstards when it comes to warranty, so many parts are not covered and those parts must be replaced by Porsche parts to keep a warranty, The Moll Battery is possibly the very worst battery you could have and as its not a warranty item i dont get how fitting a better battery invalidates warranty, The Bosch battery is so much better. However, if just the battery and the tyres are the only thing Porsche have identified that needs to be done to qualify for a warranty then my perspective is that if they will warranty it you dont need a warranty and keep the money in the bank, Porsche makes a profit - a health one out of warranties so they expect to pay less out on your car than they get in premium, you are betting it will need work and they are betting it wont - who do you think knows more about their products than them? After market warranties are good from places like warranty direct and warranty wise.

That logic applies on average (taking a huge sample size) Are you willing to take the risk? Lots of people aren't, that's why insurance companies exist - not because people are stupid.

Rodney ---I did say "my perspective" Who mentioned Stupid? And i did mention two warranty companies in my reply. My experience with Porsche warranty was poor, Reading couldnt even sign the service book correctly, missed split CV boots on a service then said the boots are not covered - but when the ingress of dirt and the grease was gone it took out the whole drive shaft - which Porsche then replaced under warranty - idiotic or what? I could go on about poor diagnostics, bad workmanship and sloppy documentation, I wouldnt have Porsche warranty if they discounted it by 50%. Warranty wise do sound very good and im sure the reputation of warranty direct is deserved, but my choice- I have no warranty, I accept that could be a risk but at the end of the day its just a car that wears like any other and some owners seem to have the Friday afternoon build, but most of us have reliable well functioning cars with the odd niggle that costs a lot less than the warranty does to rectify.

As ever it depends where you go and the relationship you have with the centre - it's a two way thing. My experience of Porsche warranty, through Exeter PC, has been nothing but first class - no arguments, no disputes, great service, good advice and I have probably just about broken even or better cost wise[;)] Porsche warranty is adminstered by Willis Assekuranz so I guess it is they, as insurance broker, who set the terms and conditions? No doubt I will have a year with no claim and wonder why I bothered!

Andrew How did you manage to get two years for £1500 they are quoting me £1300 for one year, this appears to be a bit of a raw nerve with a lot of people Porsche need to do better or do they we still buy them Kerr

Which wear and tear items are covered and do they approve repairs at Porsche Centres or top indies- out of interest? A problem with any insurance is that you often end up comparing apples to pears[:)]

Had a warranty for the first year, now into my 4th year of ownership I know its a gamble but I would rather put a couple of grand in the bank each year just in case.. It's worked for me so far

Replying to Kerr's post on 12 July.. Hi, sorry - just didn't see your post. Basically I searched around on line and didn't buy. Then a salesman phoned, I didn't bite and he kept pestering me until he reached a price I was willing to pay. In reality it's not much more than I pay for my wee A3 (3.2!). Rgds Andrew

Just for info - The High Pressure Fuel Pump recently packed up on mine. (Fuel pressure 5 bar instead of 180!) It does not go very well without it! One phone call to Porsche Assist. Low loader arrived bang on time last Monday morning, taken to Porsche Exeter where they had the tester on it almost before it was off the lorry! Pump ordered and fitted, not an easy job as one side of the exhaust has to come off, and the car ready to pick up on Wednesday as good as new. I travelled in with the vehicle and, as it was very short notice and PC Exeter didn't have a spare car for me, the chap from the car rental place was waiting in reception. Apart from fuel in the hire car there was nothing else to pay, no excess etc and the part is guaranteed for two years (although I will still have extended warranty anyway!) The bill would have been near enough two years worth of extended warranty - not to mention the suspension joint I have already had replaced under warranty earlier in the year. I also had more than my money's worth on relatively trivial warranty items the previous year. Not having the warranty, as has been pointed out, is a gamble but one I'm very glad I decided not to take. I also really appreciated not having to do all the other stuff myself and, in my humble opinion, it's worth every penny.

Shouldn't the HPFP have been replaced free of charge beforehand under a Porsche service campaign (not a recall)? - mine was and so were many others in 987s and 997s. Or was it the replacement that failed?

Is the part replaced under warranty given a 2 year warranty? Everything I've seen says parts are only warrantied if paid for.

That campaign was for the early DFI Carreras and not the turbo, I believe. Presumably they thought they had the issue sorted by 2010. This is the first failure they (as in Exeter) have seen on a turbo - although Google will find others around the globe! This was the original pump which lasted 3 years and 32000 miles!

That was the impression I got but I could be wrong on that one! I will ask the question.
