Frankly the Porsche warranty is the most comprehensive - but does tie you to the OPC chain for everything. A few on BoXa.net have cover from Warranty Direct and have successfully made claims.

Hi
First post from a newbie, am now in a position to get a 2005 3.2S with only 23k on the clock,
Can anyone recommend a good warranty company just incase something does go wrong?
Answers on a postcard please?
Thanks for your help.

Steve

Based on my experience, having an extended warranty is essential if you run a modern Porsche. They're not particularly reliable, unjustifiably expensive to maintain and quality is not all it should be. As Chris says, the Porsche extended warranty is the most comprehensive but ties you to the Porsche dealer network and forces you to use only Porsche parts.

As Spyderman says, Porsche Warranty is most comprehensive but it isn't cheap and the car has to be "all Porsche" right down to the battery. No pattern or alternative parts allowed and to be accepted you have to pay for their inspection. Any modifications must be Porsche branded, so if for instance you decided to fit a short shift gearchange and went with a different make not the genine Porsche option, no warranty and you've had to pay the inspection anyway. £100+ I have had it on my last two cars and it does give the confidence that I can call them across Europe and get it fixed. A big plus if you have it so effectively discount your RAC whatever, last time I looked that level of European cover was over £250/year and you don't need much to go wrong to recoup the rest. In 2 years with my Boxster I recouped most of the charges, on the Cayman not so much but I'll stick with it. Porsche are inordinately expensive to repair but being more complex than most cars it's not surprising, the only other cars which are as complex do seem from observation to be worse regarding reliability. Having driven Porsches for 16 years I've generally found faults can be identified and sorted at a later date, oil leaks, noises etc. Breakdowns as such have been due to additional items such as immobilisers & alarms.
