This being my first Porsche I was wondering if the phone holder in my 996 was a part of the car or is it something that may have been added by a previous owner.

I would like to take it out but I am not sure if it would effect any of the car electrics If I cut through the cable.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry all, I have tried to upload a picture but unfortunitly the file was to large from my IPad.

kind regards

Andy

Hi Andrew
I would hazard a guess and say that if there is a wire going to it then this is probably a live feed so that when the phone is inserted it would charge the phone at the very least.

Thanks Kev, yes good point regarding the live feed.
i have tried to upload an image of the phone holder and show how it has been installed, but unfortunitly my ipad pictures are to large to upload.

It looks like it has been installed very professionally, so I was wondering if it was a factory option.

Thanks Kev

kind regards

Andy

You could trace the wires back to there starting point rather than just cutting them. The little parts of carpet come off by the end of the centre consel to look. Or even pull the stereo out and look in there. I don't think there are any ignition lives there maybe look under the drivers footwell to see if you can see them going back to the fuse board. Good luck

Not sure what year your car was but I thought on the 996.1 the factory option was the PCM with built in phone. Many dealers would have a car phone company that would install a hand set into your car with the correct base unit for the handset. This would have been more common for the 996.2 as we are in the years around / before hands free (2003 law came in)
