Washer bottle contents

Due to not taking the car out in very mucky weather last year I had no need to check the washer bottle. However following a trip to Luxembourg the first weekend in December with oodles of spray I used the windscreen washer quite a lot. Imagine my amazement when I looked last weekend to top it up that the level was almost at the top.

Being a disbelieving type a thought I would top up the last inch but to my surprise manged to put in over half a litre.

Does this mean that you have no visible check on how much water is in the reservoir and have to fill it up until you cant get any more in?

I've actually never put anything in between services. It's 2.5 litres capacity on a car without headlight washers and the warning light comes on at 0.5 litres.

I have a Passat as a family car. It has a 2.0 ltr tank for screen wash but appears to magically empty itself after only a few days, yet there are no leaks. The boxster has 6.5 ltrs (because of the headlight wash). I use both cars screen wash in equal measure, yet the Boxster appears to use about a quarter of the fluid of the Passat. What the hell is going on?

I put 1.5 ltrs of wash in the Passat weekly, yet under half a ltr in the Boxster. I drive both cars about the same amount of time. Crazy!!!

However if I ever had to fill an empty Boxster screen wash tank, it would take all day. Nearly a gallon of the stuff!!!!

Well the way it sprays a small amount all over the screen always amazes me. In the Smart it's one single stream.

...and it even heats the water as it sprays it out but even more clever is it sends an interference signal to the FM radio. [;)]

Not really, the FM aerial is in the windscreen, so every time you spray, it causes a minor interference on the FM signal (you will only notice it now that I have told you otherwise it is nothing to write home about)

Is that the thing that comes on when you change CD's?[8D]
