Washer pump not working!

My windscreen washer pump seems to have stopped working. I do have power to it, therefore eliminating the stalk switch. My light washers work, which appears to run off a separate pump?

I tried to disconnect the connecter to see if it is a bad contact but could not as it is almost impossible to get to. Tried to get the bottle out so I could test the pump, but that wasn't possible either. I blew an air line down the tube just in case, but as I don't get any sound coming from the pump I reckon it's cream crackered. I have already searched on here and looked at manuals etc but not found answers

My question is if anyone has replaced their pump can you give me a guide as to how to go about it.

Cheers

I did mine - with a Mk2 Golf unit that cost about £8.50 from a factor.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I did have the luxury of the car on a ramp and the front PU being off and I honestly don't remember how I accessed it, but I clearly had a lot more options. I think it was from below.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I had the same problem with my pump on my 84 944.
There was voltage going to the pump but it still did not work, So I took of the two wires going to the pump and ran two straight from the Battery. Then the pump worked ok,(if yours dont, then the pump is dead!)
The problem was the contacts in the stalk/switch.
I had to bend them a bit closer together to make a better contact.
If you cant unplug the plug on the pump, Gentley cut along the two wires with a sharp knife to expose the copper then touch your Battery wires on at these places.

Just had the screen washer pump replaced (previous post refers) by PCT in Coventry (Autobahn) and they charged me £100. One hour labour + c£20 for the pump. It did look like it could only be accessed from underneath. They took out LH headlamp, loosened the washer tank, put the car on the ramp and then 'fiddled' the pump out / back from below. Note of course that there are two pumps if you have headlamp wash and the screen one is the lower one that you can't see from above. PCT said they have numerous customers who replace the one you can see from above by mistake and then bring the car to them!

Thanks Chris, useful to know that it's the lower one for the screen. My pump has been dead for 4 months now and I'll eventually get round to sorting it when it gets warmer - you've probably saved me much anger/embarrassment as I'd have inevitably removed the wrong one [:)]

I don't think I'll be going there in a hurry - shame as they are the nearest proper outfit to me. Maybe I'll head South instead....
