washer pump

Hi, can anybody tell me what to check now that the water is not coming onto the windscreen even though I've topped the water bottle up. Where is the pump located? The wipers are working okay, no water comes out even when I use the extra cleaning switch on the dashboard, not even onto the headlights, confused???
